Reluctantly up for sale, as I need an estate car and due to current space restrictions I have a one in one out policy.
This car has been my daily since September last year and has covered approximately 10,000 miles in that time. Current mileage sits at just over 173,000, there is an extensive service history to back this up along with all of the original booklets etc.
The car is a very straight, solid and original example of a 190 D, it even has its original first aid kit (unopened) and tool kit (still in its original cellophane bag!). There are several little stone chips and marks on the paint if you look closely, but nothing beyond what you would expect for a 30 year old car. There are 3 small dents that I can see: two minor parking dings on the front and rear passenger doors which you can barely see unless the light catches them, and one on the bootlid which is sadly a bit more noticeable (see photo). There is some slight bubbling on the edges of the front wings, but this could be addressed quite easily.
The interior is in excellent condition, the photos speak for themselves. There are no rips or tears to the seat fabric, no staining etc and the carpets are in excellent condiiton. Everything works as it should, with the exception of the blower which can be tempremental on speeds 1 and 2 (I have narrowed this down to the fan control module, the fan motor itself has been cleaned and rebuilt with new brushes). The handbrake release button has been repaired with epoxy, I am trying to track down a replacement and will fit this asap. Other than those minor issues, it is a lovely and comfy place to be.
Mechanically the car is sound. In my ownership it has had the following:
- Monark Injector nozzles, correctly shimmed and balanced
- New thermostat, coolant flush and viscous fan coupling
- New fuel fliters plus system flushed through with Diesel Purge
- Power steering pump rebuilt with new seals
- New Aux belt idler and damper
- Oil and filter changed every 5,000 miles
- New front control arms, pivot bolts, Bilstein B4 dampers and new top mounts. The tracking and camber/castor were also set when this was done
- New rear brake flexi's, pads, retaining pins and springs plus the handbrake adjusted. The brake fluid was also completely flushed through.
All parts used have been either genuine Mercedes or correct OEM (Lemforder, Febi etc).
It starts on the button hot or cold and runs smoothly. Being a naturally aspirated diesel, it won't thrill you with its performance, but it will happily sit on the motorway all day at 70 MPH and return 42 MPG. It is a pleasure to waft along in!
The cars MOT is valid until 20/8/2022, the tester was extremely complimentary of the condition underneath. This car seems to have avoided the rust that so often kills 190's, it is completely solid and has never been welded, nor does it require any. If I was keeping it, the next job was to have it properly rust-protected with Dinitrol to help keep the underneath in this condition.
The car is currently on alloys with matching Yokohama's all round. I have the original steel wheels and moon-disc hub caps, these will be included in the sale - but you will need to change the tyres as they are ancient!
This is a great car for use as a retro daily (as I have) or as a base to take to concourse level (if that's your sort of thing).
£3200 ONO. Please get in touch if you want to know any more, viewing is welcomed.
