So I bought this Commer Wanderer back in 2018 as I've always wanted one. The wife showed a little bit of weakness the morning I'd found it for sale and that very night it was on our driveway. Poor show from her really
My initial thoughts were that it was probably a little too slow and underpowered to enjoy taking on weekends away so I'd try and squeeze a little more power out of it. I had a brief stint of turbo charging the original 1725 which although successful left me wanting more power and refinement.
Being I've got a few Saab turbos and have successfully fitted a B234 in my Scimitar I set about converting the Commer to Aero power.
I've used a 1997 Saab B234 2.3 turbo with a TD04-19T and 630 cc injectors. Should put me in the 300hp area.
Home made adaptor plate to run a Jatco 4N71 4 speed auto box from an NA MX5.
Rover P5b rear axle.
Custom front disc brake setup with Jeep Cherokee 280mm vented discs and Saab 9000 calipers
Absolutely nothing has been straight forward 🤦 Everything that has needed fitting from the intercooler to the handbrake cable to the torque converter to the axle has not been a bolt on job! Nigh on everything has needed extensive engineering to make this mismatch of parts work together and I'm certainly not finished yet! 😆
Aesthetically the van hasn't been touched, it really needs a new roof as the gutters and pop top are in a poor way and the interior is long gone and that certainly is in the plan, just getting it driving reliably is the current priority.
