Full disclosure, this is an MOT Failure. However those issues have been fixed.
It failed the MOT on New Year's Eve on subframe corrosion and a hole in each sill. The subframe, wishbones have been replaced. The small hole in each sill turned out to be the tip of a rather large rot Iceberg that consumed the sill halfway along the car (both saides), through to the rear arches (both inner and outer - BOTH SIDES), as well as some rot on the chassis rail. All of this has been welded, any other bit of rust was wire brushed off, Vactan'd, red oxide primered and undersealed. So in this respect, all of the MOT failure work has been fixed. It's also had copious amounts of cavity wax injected in to it (both to what I've done, and to the cavities that didn't need doing), the Bilt Hamberg Dinosaur 5000 or whatever it is. It's the good curse word! As well as that, any bit of steel that was welded was sprayed with the Bullet Hamburg Electrolux weld through primer. So there is every chance the welding and steel I put on the car will outlast the rest of it.
Throughout the 6 months other bits needed fixing, such as the common rot on the fuel filler pipe which has been replaced with a new pipe, new rubbers for it, and new rear differential mounts (front and back) as they broke apart in my hand. It's also had a new fuel tank strap fabricated with 4mm steel, which is a full 3.7mm thicker than what came off of it.
The issue though is that I prepped the car Friday night for an MOT, and realised I hadn't ordered a £2.50 bolt from Toyota to finish connecting the lower wishbone to the ball joint. So I cancelled the MOT. However I moved the car for the first time in this amount of time my foot went straight to the floor on the brake pedal. The brakes were fine when they were parked up, but there is air in the system and no obvious signs for brake fluid on any of the four corners or pipe work. So this would indicate a problem with the brake master cylinder.
It's been well documented on the beige forum with all the work I've done, but I've a child on the way towards the end of the year so I was going to get rid of this RAV4 anyway then. But I can't afford to spend any more time on it, especially as the wife has put up with me spending every weekend and evening on it and not getting the house ready.
The price is £400, which is cheap considering the work, and is reflective of the work that could need doing to it (namely suspension components, they don't look great but weren't an issue on the MOT). However, it does need to be gone this weekend. So if it doesn't go here, it doesn't go on the other forum, it'll go to the scrap man. Which is a shame but it's better than looking at it and having it taunt me.
Any questions, let me know. I've included photos of how it is now, and a selection the work done to it.
