Hi all, Has anyone ever (successfully) used any of the key programmers available on eBay etc and are the simple to use ?? (I normally have issues with computer thrombosis, there's a clot using it !!) I'm talking about programming to the engine etc, not the central locking system, Thanks, Nigel

Get yourself a MyCarly or a Carista for BMW, they can do most things.

They usually have their own app so each interface may be different, but they're pretty user friendly. I use an OBDEleven for my TT which can do everything VCDS can.

When you say programming, are you referring to either -Immobiliser chip programming -Key Memory (i.e how it opens the doors depending on the key you use etc.?) -Programming bits of the car (i.e plips to come on when you lock the doors, how the doors lock (i.e one door and then the rest or just all of them at once). If the first one, That will be a BMW only job, one which a local keysmith can do, in addition to possibly BM Keys, but I think he needs another key to work off. The latter two can be done by Carly and possibly also NCS Expert or ISTA-D, depending on the generation of car you own. If it's the former that you need, I'd consider getting a key from BMW if it's for the E46 or any other Rhombus keyed BMW. They are £130 new from the dealer. That sounds like alot, but get this: -Mondeo MkIII Key, which was used from the '98 Focus onwards, as well as other cars, is £190 from Timpsons, more from Ford, and about £150 from a locksmith for a decent quality version if you catch him on a good day -Mondeo MKIV key is well over £200 from Ford after programming. -Post-Rhombus keys for BMWs (i.e LCI E90s and E60s) are over £200 from BMW. If you need programming of the car for the simpler stuff I have Carly. I'm West Midlands based if you need me to assist .
