looking for thoughts and ideas on a radio aerial for my morris 1800,
its never had a radio fitted so i really don't want to have to drill the body to fit the aerial, and being a bit pedantic i want to fit a period motarola style radio so fm is out as well.
any one have any ideas or recommendations as to what sort of aerial i can get or use?
thanks

Hi, Has it got a heated rear screen? If so it can be used as an aerial.

Hi, Yes you plug a little box inline to the heater, as used on SD1, Range Rover, Ford Sierra and plenty of others.

The one in my range rover is not very good though, might work OK on MW I've only tried FM.
Other option is to get a Bluetooth unit built into the radio and stream the radio to it from a phone.

Unless you have fit an aerial that has an extremely good ground contact with the chassis of the vehicle it is virtually guaranteed that on AM you will recieve nothing but engine interference. I believe that in period for the Morris 1800 it was common to fit a roof aerial - by far the best solution if you want the radio to work.
Failing that you could fit a Motorola radio just for appearance and use your phone with a decent bluetooth speaker to stream radio/music. Nothing at all on the car would be modified from standard and no holes need to be cut. Probably be much cheaper too. It would also sound much better than an AM radio (even one installed with a proper aerial)

yes i take on board i should just get a bluetooth speaker under the seat etc... this is just because i can, and that if i plug the same radio into my maestro aerial then there is a reasonable station to listen to. (i'm not wanting the faf of a speaker onto my phone)
i now have a amplifier off a sierra, does anyone have to hand a diagram to wire it up? according to mr haynes it should have a live to it but doesnt show which of the 2 terminals to connect it to

The problem is that without a proper body mounted aerial you probably won't recieve any station other than interference.
I was a car radio installation technician in the 1980's. There were still a lot of cars from the 60's and 70's around at that time along with a lot of AM stations. It was incredibly rare that you could hear any above engine interference without using a proper body mounted radio aerial.
