I've been wanting to have a go at building a tot rod for years now, never got round to it for my kids, and they're up now, so I'm building one for my grandson.
I was looking at vintage pedal cars, and calecosse's thread and got inspired.
Get one, modify it, bingo done.
However, silly prices for the ones I was interested in scuppered my plan.
Enter plan B.
To start with it's going to be a stroller, then in the future it will get electrified.
Here's a brief rundown on what I've got and what I've done so far.
It started with one of these
And because my fabbing skills are limited, one of these, for the steering and rear axle
Next I made a wooden mock up of a simple chassis to help me get all my measurements sorted. Sorry, forgot pics.
Next step was to call in a favour from one of the prototype engineers at work.
He made a box section item from my wooden template. He also mounted the axles for me, too. Big thanks to Scotty P for this.
While Scotty was sorting the chassis I started modding the body.
I also got hold of a Haynes V8.
From this
To this
Window surrounds need finishing off.
Once I had the chassis back it was time for a trial fit.
And that's where I'm up to.
Needs properly mounting and paint.
The grille needs some work as it's a bit big since I've chopped the body.
I've made a dragster style butterfly steering wheel at work, but I don't have pics at the moment.
Any hints, tips or critesism's welcome.
Remember, it's my first time, so be gentle.
