I can see how and coil pack for a 6 cylinder engine is just 3 x 2 wasted spark coils stuck together. In terms of neatness of fitting, 3 x 2 coilpacks could work well in my application but I can't find 2 cylinder coils that aren't expensive. Is there anything from the motorbike world or elsewhere that are up to the job and reasonably priced?
Taking the next logical step, how easy is it to make two coilover plugs act like one coilpack wasted spark coilpack?
Also, on a straight 6 engine, firing order 153624, which cylinders should fire together please?

Yes the pairings will have one fire and one wasted spark.

Not sure if they’re suitable for your application, but the later Rover K series engines have 2 cylinder coil packs,mounted on top of one plug, with a lead to another, ie 2&4, 1&3

It's easy to do but must be 4 pin (built in ignitors) and may need firmware mods depending on the ECU. Haven't done it yet so I know no more.

Thanks dickie12, xbl, comfortablynumb & crockpot. I think the Renault ones might be the answer. The k series - well the distancing would be too great. I don't really want to extend the ignition wires.

Thanks Rascalti, This raises some new questions. This coilpack replaces the EDIS module with its built in amplifier so could be cost-effective. The latest Megajolt from Autosportlabs allows you to add an ignition amplifier as part of the purchase. Ie. trigger-wheels.com/store/contents/en-uk/d63.htmlPresumably instead of the EDIS. I'm trying to understand if there is a wiring difference between EDIS and 'dumb' amplifier either built into the coil or as a standalone amplifier. Looking at the MJ diagrams, with EDIS, both the MJ and EDIS receive the signal from the trigger wheel. In the absence of any other input from MJ, the EDIS will fire at 10deg BTDC. With an ignition amplifier, in the absence of MJ, does it default to anything as per EDIS or just do nothing? EDITED FOR NEW INFORMATION Just received a reply from AutosportLabs/Megajolt 'You must use an EDIS module, you can't use an ignition amplifier'. So the coilpack with ignition amplifier shouldn't be used. A dumb coilpack should be used instead. In my case a dumb 6 cylinder coilpack or 3 x 2 as per Dickie12's Renault suggestion above.
