kevinsPlease could you dumb down the test for the thermostat for me. I think you are saying take the plug off the sensor which is likely plugged into the thermostat housing, turn the ignition on and place some metal over the two pins? I don’t play around with electrical bits often!

If it’s one pin then just place a wire from the connector to bare metal?

to test the electric fan remove the plug from the thermostat housing use a paper clip to join the connection then turn on the ignition and the fan should run and the fan won't come on until the gauge is almost in the red

it’s part of the cooling system and is bolted onto the front (side facing out towards the headlights) of the engine. That is the front water rail, i think there are differences between mk1 and mk2 fiestas, so make sure you get the right one Because of the fwd installation, it carries water from the pump under the exhaust 👍
