Hi All,
Up for sale is my Audi A4 Avant B5 S.E. It's the manual 5spd with 4 cyl 20 valve 1.8 n/a petrol engine, producing 123 bhp. No quattro/ no turbo/ no dramas. I picked it up as a stop gap estate, did a fluids service and a few jobs to get it running and have grown to like it but new job/ no time/ over stock of fleet etc - the usual scenario.
I'm no Audi buff but I guess SE spec equates to "Symphony audio", electric mirrors, aircon and chequer-board seat trim/ 'carbon fibre' facings, rear arm rest and head restraints x 5, variable intermittent wiper speed etc... oh ambassador you are spoiling us! Aircon doesn't blow cold and I haven't investigated further.
It's MOTd until Feb next year and currently taxed to get you home. I've been using it most days since March to ferry the dog around and what not, and it starts on the button and has proved itself 100% reliable. it's a good drive - the clutch is great, the steering is pin sharp and it will cruise at legal limits and beyond with no sweat at all.
It's sitting on 15" Speedlines with all centre caps present, which aren't really doing it any favours aesthetically, but has matching tyres all round with loads of tread. 5th Speedline in the spare wheel well too.
Bodywise, it's a REALLY clean car. It's finished in 'Cactus Green' which is eye popping to say the least, and has a pro-tint job on the rear windows. No rust. There's a couple of minor scuffs but nothing to worry you and at this price point, I'd say it's as good as you could find. All the black trim is also good, including the lower door rubbers and I understand these are usually hanging, so a nice bonus.
Interior wise, it's clean and tidy, no rips on the seats, nice headlining, illuminated vanity mirrors, bits of leather/ sport wheel ,brilliant heater.
There's a folder of bills - which I confess I haven't been through - and one key.
Issues?
Well clearly it needs a drop and some nice wheels
More practically but less importantly:
The engine mgt light is on.
Central locking not working but locks on the key fine.
Check display shows two doors open when they're closed
Blow from exhaust.
Knock from front left under heavy deceleration.
I know these B5 Avants are a bit unloved but having owned one, I don't really get it. The build quality feels really good, they clearly got the rustproofing right and I think they're a good looking small wagon with a bit of sportiness about them. Maybe their time will come but for now, there ain't much retro-ness this clean to be had for this kind of money.
Any more info ask away or drop me a PM - Nick
