Hi,
We have 1 of these that was going to be my Daughters 1st car, however we have discovered it's not really practical and is too expensive to insure. This is a totally retro car, has not been altered or messed with( Boy Racered) as many have. Car is a T reg(1999) with roughly 126000 on the clock, has new brake pads fitted, has some history and original handbooks, currently SORN, no MOT, runs fine.
Any clues on what would be a good price to ask? Have seen some advertised for a ridiculous amount, don't want to be greedy but also would like to get money towards a suitable 1st car for my Daughter.
Any constructive advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I'd stick it in for a mot. At worst you'll get a list of what work needs doing.
You could then do some/none/all of that that work.
I'd be put off if I didn't have at least a rough idea of what it might need to get through the mot.

pm me with what you’d be happy with for it.
A mate is looking for a car for his nephew.

Good question.
GTis are now worth very serious money, and even Saxo VTS which were once very cheap have crept up.
I'd say check the sold listings on eBay and see what they got. What do you class as silly money?
I know some will disagree with me here. From folks I know in the trade, and experiences of people recently buying cheap cars myself, it's now very hard to get something for around £1k that is truly reliable and not too scruffy without an issue with it (i.e pass an MOT without alot of cost put towards it, look fairly tidy, and not have a problem (i.e a pattern cat which stops it getting MOT'd easily, having a shudder which no one can cure etc. etc.)
Folks working from home, thus not changing cars where they would have done, a shortage of new cars due to the semi-conductor crisis, and the general rise in the classic car market right the way up to the modern classic territory hasn't helped at all. The latter IMO has shown just how expensive labour is, which naturally, folks want back with selling a car, where the values don't work like that. The price of scrap cats hasn't helped either. Most 6 pot BMWs have cats worth around £600-800 to the scrap man. A 960/V90 cat? Try £700! Yikes! Why deal with folks who want cars for a pittance when you can just chop the cat out and make easy money? Sure, MOTs may be a problem, especially with recent law changes, but that's the next owner's problem.
A £1k E36 drop top is now £2-3k. A friend sold a very clean V90 (960 style) for £5k recently and he had people waiting to buy it. 2 years ago, that would have been a £2k car on a good day.
They must be pretty rare now, especially in unmolested condition. Alot of these had GTi engines fitted so as to get cheap tax and insurance.

I've got a relatively standard Quiksilver, bar a lowering kit and Pugsport stainless exhaust that I was considering selling but looking at how rapidly prices for these are going up and the fact that if I wanted another in a few years time it would be more than I could justify, I've come to the conclusion that I'll just keep it.

Thank you all for your input, think I'll pop it on the For Sale section and see if there's any interest, it's a good tidy little car but we don't have the Time or space to keep it and get it Mot'd, the original plan was to do this but as she needs a different car we feel it's better going to someone who will look after & Cherish it.

What did you get for it, out of interest? I'm now considering selling mine as well.
