This might be of interest to some, we often see cars in the Abandoned Ones thread and wonder how it came about, well here's the story of one of them.
My brother's first car was this 1991 Citroen AX 1.0L. My dad ran a local garage, and this one was for sale through it. A deal was done, and here is one of the original sale pics:
With access to a regular collection of cars passing through the garage for sale, repair and scrapping, and with it being peak Max Power era, it didn't take him long to customise it, finding a full AX GT interior and bodywork. Here's the same car not long after:
This car powered him around all over UK and Ireland for a while, before he moved on to more powerful motors. The car went back to Dad's garage to be sold once again, finding a young lady owner. She brought it back again not long after as a trade in, and it was back with Dad, minus one lost wheel arch trim.
Unfortunately, the lady was not entirely honest about the condition of the AX, it turned out that it no longer drove straight, and inspection revealed that it would need pulling back into shape at the front. Possibly she had mounted a curb, as there was no body damage.
The car went off to another garage that my dad used for that sort of thing, and while there some rust was also revealed. It was decided to park it for a while, to decide how best to proceed. That "while" turned into the best part of a decade, and dad kept it SORNd while it sat and gradually rusted in a grassy area out the back of the garage.
In 2014, dad unfortunately passed away suddenly in a car crash, and as a one-man garage the whole lot was wound up. The AX itself had no real value at this stage, and essentially passed to the garage it was languishing at, towards bills. And there it has sat ever since, gradually composting.
I checked it out last week, curious to see if I could save it and surprise my brother with it next year, but I don't think it's salvageable any more.
So there it is, a sad story of neglect for a once treasured car. All that remains is the pics, enjoy:
