Hi guys,
I have an old London taxi and it has the same Lucas windscreen wipers fitted to scores of old British cars with the motor containing a cam drive which pulls the cable back n forth along the bottom of the windscreen.
I've taken out the motor, cleaned up the gearbox which was like ear-waxing an elephant (tons of amber coloured goop). I've also freed up the spindles the wiper arms attach to by connecting them to a power drill and spinning them faster than they've ever gone before. The cable and wiper gearboxes have been lubricated.
So mechanically it's pretty well set. When the wipers wipe they move reasonably swiftly across the screen.
What has started to happen though is the once in every 10 movements of the wiper stalk there appears to be zero power sent to the motor. I can move the stalk to any position and press the button for the washer and nothing happens.
I know a lot about general electrical troubleshooting so what I'm really looking for is another case of the same symptoms and where the problem was, if anyone has had the same problem on their classic?
