I'm looking at getting an RX7 FB or FD - I bought an imported FD a few years ago for a 1/4 of what online sellers are looking for today. I can't find and FB's that aren't completely rotten, in fact I can't find any at all, and would prefer one of those over an FD. I understand cars of this era are going up in price, but it has to be cheaper than factoring in a trader's profits.
I've tried beforward.jp but that's where my knowledge runs out, has anyone done it recently?

Prices in Japan have shot up recently & the exchange rate ahs gone against us over the last few years. Also as more car's fall into the over 25 year category the Americans are snapping them up. I was speaking to these a while back (2013/4?) about importing a Datsun Sunny long bed pickup but Mrs put an end to it & the same truck now is about double the price (Was £6k landed now getting on for £15k) (this is closest to the red one I was interested in! www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/NISSAN/SUNNY_TRUCK/700100310330210409001/index.html - £11.3k!) www.jdmauctionwatch.com/If you want to loose a few days basking in JDM'ness - click on this (be warned, you will get carried away lol) www.goo-net-exchange.com/

Tradecar View will give you full landed prices (and often can be negotiated down a bit on sales price) www.tc-v.com/used_car/mazda/rx-7/27581881/?isNew=1But Japanese cars in Japan are expensive now thanks to the Americans (and domestic market) picking them up.

Well that is three hours I will never get back! Goo net. Very interesting. Have wanted an old Daihatsu jeep for ages but the ones in UK are rough. Then you see this. www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/DAIHATSU/DAIHATSU_OTHER/700050699430170604001/index.html£10K landed? Sounds expensive, but is in reality cheap if you compare to buying a rough one in the UK and getting restored. Watching the pennies though, so the D jeep will have to remain a dream. Out of interest has anyone seen a Colt Lancer 2000 Turbo go through these auctions? Not sure if they were sold in Japan. Had arguably the best BBR in UK and it is now owned by a Mitsubishi employee.

My sources (various) tell me that the EX 2000 Turbo was a Europe-only model. Japan received a 1.8 turbo version, but the taxes applied to it meant that it was sold in relatively small numbers. It's possible that one will appear at the auctions, but it's probably a rare occurrence.

Yeah, if you keep it a bit, it's bound to appreciate, it seems a lot of 80's stuff is climbing now, E30 BMW's have doubled over the past few years, especially six cylinders. RX7 FD prices are ridiculous, I sold mine for £7K three years ago.

Tentatively thought 18K for my old car. They really are superb and beat an RS2000 at twice the price.

I've been to look at cars IRL that seemed fantastic in the pictures but clearly weren't when viewed up close. I've looked around tc-v and perhaps I've missed something but what protection is there against a car turning up with the engine missing or the gearbox being shot or not turning up at all?

You can opt for insurance and a pre-shipping inspection. I know a couple of people that have bought of there and everything turned up as described. However it is worth keeping in mind that Japan isn't some magical land where everyone is honest and all cars are rust free perfection, more than a few lemons have arrived on these shores from unscrupulous sellers, so I'd always suggest a pre shipping inspection. Having said that we bought a car from New Zealand without anyone seeing it, but we trusted the seller.

[/quote] T-CV is just a site for traders in Japan to advertise on and sell through, it tells you the traders name and you can get reviews on the site but just like anywhere else i'd do my own research too. I just got a decent Toyota CROWN for dirt cheap via T-CV and its turned up just as described - but like i say, treat it like buying from autotrader or eBay or anywhere else and check the reputation of the seller first.
