So I did a bit more. This time sorting the tailstock clamp out as I needed to bore through some things I was making.
It’s a little rough and ready but it was more a test of what it should actually be like, I’ll finesse it a bit a bit further down the line (tbh I’ll proably buy some better material and redo it).
I found a random bit of 12mm plate under the bench and cut it to size.
Then drilled it and found a bolt. I have the smart and brown parts list for this lathe and it specifies this should be a unbrako 3/8”ww x 3-1/2” tee bolt, but I didn’t have one so it’s just a normal bolt locked off with a nut for the moment. That’s the bit I want to improve on really.
But it fits in the slide as it should-
And pulls up correctly to clamp-
I then added this clamp nut that came with the lathe, I have a suspicion this is what it was originally for as I can’t see anywhere else it would go.
And it now works well enough for me to bore straight through a 5” long tube with a 33/64” bit, so I don’t think there’s any issues with its functionality!
I Only really have the work light to finish fixing and rewire (I started but needed to order parts), the cross slide shaft to shim up, and one stubborn broken bolt in a drawer handle to sort, and I think it’s about sorted. I’m resisting the temptation to repaint though tbh, I’d describe what it has as ‘honest patina’ and I think I’d rather keep that than go new.
