taken something apart because you had a nice new shiny bit, spent hours doing that only to find that you cant locate said bit and then having to put it back together?
On Saturday just gone had a new door lock and striker to install, so took door card off, struggled stripping out the existing lock and striker, (not easy with sausage fingers), got it all stripped..excellent..only to find out that the new bits weren't where they were supposed to be.
Spent ages looking to no avail so put it all back together, 3 hours wasted!!
Anyway, as I was tidying up, well you know what happened next!! 'Oh there it is, curse word!!' What a kn0b! I had placed the box on the drivers seat under the door card.
I could have sworn I put it on the parts shelf!!
Duh!

I usually get to the point of tidying all tools away so there is a clear playing field to play "spot the new part" Although I have purchased new things to replace the new thing I havent fitted, because I can't find the first new thing

I spent a hour looking for a crankshaft key at work today. Just got home and it's fallen out of my back pocket as I took my trousers off.

After many (too many) years I’ve worked out that when things keep going missing, it’s time to tidy up, and usually you find the missing thing(s) in the process. If the “loosing” streak continues, time to call it a day before you get to the tool throwing stage.... Nick

I do things like this. Every... blooming... time... I am in the garage. I took the spacer off my grinder to fit a wire wheel. Now I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE where I have put it. This was 4 weeks ago. I still have no idea where it is. I REALLY don't want to have to get another grinder for cutting duties. I also put my door mirrors in a special box. This box was marked "Carb" so I had no hope of finding it. Utterly illogical.

The key fell out of the crank and my memory was saying I'd put it on the bench. Easiest way to tell I've built a engine is if there's tippex on all the bolts as have to mark they're tight incase I get sidetracked. Nowt worse than the laid in bed at 3am having the troubling thought that I might have forgotten to tighten that big end or crank bolt up lol.

I'm really bad for this, I'm that person that will look everywhere for his glasses while wearing them so stuff gets placed in an orderly fashion when removing and replacing

When I ask Mrs Woman if she has seen what I'm looking for, the usual response is some sarcastic comment (typically age related!) or 'what that one just there, pointing to it'.....bizarre!

I actually have a rule, rigourously enforced, Rule number 2 says "when you spend more time looking for a tool/part than you do using/fitting it, it's time to tidy stuff up!"
I'm an inveterate key loser and have had to take extreme measures to avoid pulling out what hair I have left. Most stuff I lose is actually right under my nose the whole time, usually pointed to immediately by SWMBO, if she's in the vicinity.
She never gets sarcy about it though, as I have an ace up my sleeve. Many years ago when we were courting, I phoned her at work (can't remember why but irrelevant anyway) as the conversation progressed I noticed her getting increasingly cross about something and could hear her shuffling stuff around on her desk. When I finally asked what was wrong, she said "I can't find my blanketty blank phone!" "What, the one you are talking to me on?" says I! D'OH!

Exactly this now. Bought some tools home to do my headlight adjuster, I had started it work and ran out of time. Get home start doing it and I've left the most important part at work 😢

I've had to buy new parts because I can't find the ones I have already bought, of course this almost guarantees the original ones turn up!

Um, I haven't seen my house keys since Sunday... I fear I may have left them in the Lada and sold the car! I have also lost the end of my camelback, a purple work shirt, some blue and white check shorts, a pad of A1 paper, and this is just what I'm aware of at the moment. If anyone's seen any of it please do return!
