From what I remember 8 AWG would be just over 8 mm2 csa ? Correct, 8.36mm². 👍 It's been a while since I dealt with AWG cable sizes on a regular basis, would have been back in the mid/late nineties when I worked in the G.o.M. all the suppliers and local sparky's worked in AWG and I was used to working in metric. When I was at school and as an apprentice I had learned in Imperial, so in effect I used to juggle 3 systems in my head, even now I still think in Imperial and convert, it's not unusual for me to mix measurements, use either side of the tape, whatever fits best Apologies for the distraction, the car is coming along nicely, I look forward to seeing your updates

As a rough guide measure the dia of the copper, ignore the # of strands etc just the overall dia. then do Diameter² x Pi / 4 that will give you an approximation of the csa, if the max amperage for that csa is close to your circuit current, then go up a size, it's not worth messing about close to the cable limit, safer and better to have some spare capacity.

I dunno. Which red suits it better? Frame or quarter panel? Very burgundy versus nearly orange.

I like them both, but on such a big car I think the burgundy will be better

For me , and i know its a common choice , it would look great black gloss with all the stainless and chrome trim setting it off ,the maroon looks to Heavy , and the lighter red too Japanese ,British leyland , k pop plasticky . one of the really bright silvers would look good too .

Burgundy it is.
Ain't painting it black. Don't got the skill to make that smooth enough for that kind of reflection.

Lunch time shenanigans. Marked out where the floor will attach to the structure of the car. I think I'm going to cut it up into sections that'll make it more manageable to hammer the shapes into and weld those in piecemeal. Phil

The colonial container bears no resemblance to the actual colour If it had been the colour on the container it would probably be OK

Now , I woulda liked cranberry as it is on the can. But cranberry 2.0 not so much. Is there a darker red Phil than might come out as cranberry on the can dark ?
Oh or try cranberry on a black base primer ?

Depending on the type of cable you can get an overall cable diameter for them from suppliers/manufacturers.
Eland cables are quite good for this (I use their data at work to check approximate sizes), a lot of newer cables have the size noted in the outer sheath,

I was considering getting a bead roller but this method works well enough.

I think all but a full pro one would struggle with 18gauge steel, what you are doing looks fine to me, coat it with raptor afterwards and nobody will ever know how you formed it.

Yeah, there's a good rubberized spray on coating I've used before which looks very similar to the original coating that was applied. It also accepts paint to be painted over it. Should look ok when it's all done, yes.
