No road trip in the end, the plan was to make a day out of it, take the dogs for a nice walk somewhere, that kind of thing, but the weather out pay to that idea. Instead the seller shipped the headers for €10 overnight, so can't argue with that... Flowtech ceramic coated long tube headers that are supposedly a bolt on fit, we will see... Now I just need to find an exhaust shop that can make up the rest of the system. Hoping that one of the locals on here ( eurogranada maybe) knows someone?

For creation of exhaust I'm planning on going to bastech. This is recommended by the barn friends... bastech.nl/

No pictures, but which ever engineer, or more likely beancounter, at GM decided not to add a drain plug to a TH350 gearbox can get in the sea...

So, after fighting with the truck on Saturday I managed to get the transmission fluid and filter changed, the engine oil and filter changed, and a new transmission dipstick tube fitted as the one that was on there had been cut about and wasn't the right length. I am glad the trans fluid doesn't smell like 80W90, given the amount I was wearing by the end of it. Lots of silver in the bottom of the trans sump, but no big chunks so doesn't seem too bad. Next time I do it I will buy a replacement sump with a drain plug though... Sunday morning I finally got around to fitting the trans dust cover to the bellhousing so that the torque converter and flexplate aren't exposed anymore. I also took a look at the parking brake which has never worked since I got the truck. Classic american foot operated jobbie, if you push the pedal down the brakes worked, but it didn't ratchet and stay down. Turns out that whoever last worked on it had attached the wiring loom that runs from the fusebox to the dash to the top of the parking brake mechanism in such a way that it held the release leaver down all of the time. A nice easy fix for once! Feeling all happy that I had achieved something I took it for a run to the DIY store for some garden supplies, which was a wasted trip as they were out of stock. Waiting to turn out of the carpark some ejit ran up the back of me, so now I need a new bumper... Glad I got the bumper fitted a few weeks ago, saved the back of the bed I am sure. Got to wait and see what the other persons insurance wants to do now...

It was so much fun to see you trundle about in the thing! It's massive on our Dutch roads! But I love the feel it presents. The no rush, we'll get there attitude. And it aint no slouch either with that big engine!
Don't let yourself get too distracted by honey do's (like the garden, lol) and get cracking on scrapping the one oldsmobile so you can fix that Mk2 Golf for the lady! I say this obviously so you can get on with the real important projects. ;-)

That one does look nice mht, though for my taste and purposes it needs to be a usable truck, so the ride height and wheels would need some adjustment. In the vain of getting it more useful, some storage seemed like a good idea... Quick trip to a DIY store and I came away with a big (1m long) metal box... Now, red won't do, so a quick blow over with some cans of black I had kicking around (though not enough, meaning its rather patchy at best), and some captive bolt brackets that sit up inside the pressed ribs of the floor so they can't spin and we have some storage... It is mostly there for things like spare fluids, ratchet straps, cargo net for over the load bed, that kind of thing. Nothing of any real value, so for the most part it will stay unlocked. My thinking it is better for someone to open it and find there is nothing worth nicking, than do damage trying to get in. Obv. I have the option of locking it, and as it is bolted from the inside and the nuts on the bottom are welded, it should be secure-ish. I doubt it will be weatherproof mind, but for €50 it will do for the moment.

I am thinking of dropping down to only 4 days a week for a while to try and make some more progress, but need to see how that will work yet. I wasn't pushing the truck too hard when you were behind me, the oil and fumes were probably nad enough already for you, if I hit the loud pedal too much it leaves visible clouds of blue smoke behind...

One thing I love about my new job is the 4x9 hour schedule. One extra day off work is quite nice to have! And with the weather improving, more sun means more fun in my book, I'm actually getting some traction on things I want to or need to do. I have the added benefit that they gave me the Friday as my day off. Can hardly do better I think. The good thing about 4x9 instead of 4x8 is that you don't lose too much valuable work time and pay in comparison to a 40 hour work week. Although sometimes 9 hour + days feel too long. But it's the exception to the rule when I have a day like that. If one can financially afford to do 4x8 and the boss is ok with that then obviously that is even nicer.
Haha, I know you weren't really pushing it. But it already showed its potential! And yes, it's a health hazard to drive behind but all in due time right... I was more surprised you get away with that exhaust as it is. It is loud! I know my neighbours would throw a fit. They already think the Granada loud. And I can't fully disagree, hence I will have it changed in due time.

So, the question is........ Are you going to cover it in stickers ? No, the sticker bomb look just isn't my thing. When the truck gets sorted and painter properly I will get a nicer storage box and get some pinstriping on it most likely.

Had confirmation from the insurance company of my payout for the bumper today, so just placed an order with LMC. 8-10 days shipped from the US, but at least its easy to get the parts... I may also have tacked a couple of other small items on to the order, seeing as the shipping costs were already being paid. In the end the shipping and taxes was more than the item cost, but oh well.

Not a lot of photos, but after getting some jobs finished in the garden (Last of the paving done for now, just need to do some tidying up, level the ground, and lay the lawn...) I managed to get a few hours of truck time... When I opened up the new rear bumper that was in the box above I realised it was going to need some painting before it could go on. The chrome was good but where they had welded the support framework into it there was some unpainted sections and I didn't trust how good the black paint is. Everything that isn't visible got cleaned down, and a decent coat of gloss black brushed on on Saturday afternoon, which meant that sunday afternoon I could get it fitted. In my mind this should be a 1 hour job, I had bought a new fitting kit, so 4 bolts to remove the old bumper, 4 bolts to mount the brackets to the chassis, and 4 bolts to mount the bumper to the brackets. Easy. Except that the brackets were a completely different design to the ones I had on the old bumper, with many many holes and notches obviously designed for multiple different vehicles, and no instructions. After trying many different combinations of bolt holes and getting Rae to help me lift it on and off I gave up, found a youtube video to check it out, and was fitted a few minutes later... I really ought to get a decent plate frame and some replacement plates made up for it, the current one looks like its been run over multiple times, I have no idea how they get into such a state. Looking at the old bumper I think someone with a bit of effort could probably pull it back straight again, it actually sprang back a bit once I removed it form the mounts. Considering the mounts are made of 5/16" / 8mm plate, the drivers side (bottom) certainly moved some. I will probably chuck the old one on some of the Dutch american car / truck groups as a "free to anyone brave enough" before it gets added to the scrap pile.

Haha, that bumper is so nice it's a little out of character for the vehicle, lol. Nah, shows it's a continuous work in progress!

Yet another delivery from the US, this time from a slightly more interesting company... Because Race car - Because they were the cheapest supplier, with the item in stock, and who would actually tell me waht the shipping would cost before I had paid for the order. One company wanted me to order, pay, and then only once they had picked and packed would they tell me what the costs were, wouldn't even respond to emails.
