Recently purchased a 105E Anglia with a few faulty bits, one of which is totally bugging me. Turn on ignition and power steering kicks in immediately, no 10 second wait. After ten seconds or so the ecu relay clicks and guess what, no power steering. Wiring seems correct but I didn't wire it so it's a bit of a mystery as I can't figure out how to correct what may be a simple miswire situation. Can anyone throw some light on this please.

On the corsa B and C epas columns there isn't a 10 second delay before it turns on. Its almost instant (about 1 second or so) so this part isn't a fault as such. I'm assuming the steering is off when the ignition is off and there is a click (no matter how quickly) when the ignition is switched? While it is working are you getting the same level of assistance turning left and right? If you are getting more one way than the other the torque sensor is out of calibration and if its far enough out the ecu will shut down after a time (not measured how long myself) Although this normally happens when the sensor is so far out the steering turns itself one way all the way to full lock. Other things that i've known to turn off the system is a drop in ignition signal voltage to the controller bellow 12v (or a specific voltage) . This happened on one controller i tried when i was first looking at epas many years ago. That one would cut out whenever the test car was started as the straight 6 engine dragged the voltage down to about 10v so the controller shut off and wouldn't wake up until the ignition was turned off and on again! Needless to say that controller got binned and i moved on to testing a different brand.
Another thing that springs to mind is to check the signal to the controller from the ignition live feed. All controllers i've seen require an earth and an switched ignition feed. If by some chance that feed has been taken from a timed circuit that goes dead after 10 secs it could be the cause. I'd identify the ignition feed wire to the controller and undo it, then give that a live feed and see if the column stays live or still switches off after a time.
It is of course possible that their is a fault inside the steering ECU or the control box. I've never come across either of these issues myself and have played with hundreds of corsa columns.
A picture of the ecu would help to identify which column you have in the car
