Found on the streets of Bangkok. Looks to be a blatant 250GTO ripoff but much smaller and running gear is a corolla KE30 /35. I would assume its a self build if it was GRP or ally but it's steel so maybe something a bit more interesting. It has "NAVY" stencilled on the bootlid so I'm thinking maybe US Expat? It's a weird thing. Interior might be ke30, rear axle maybe, but it's mounted upside down so can't tell for sure. Front deffo isn't ke30 as that normally has a macpherson setup and not a double wishbone setup. Can't tell anything about the body...

Gut feeling is that this is chopped down from a steel car, rather than built up as a fibreglass kit. The gutter line doesn't match the windscreen shape, it looks like the windscreen hole is grafted in from the back of an older car to give it the right look. The side profile of the door and tiny rear window is really familiar, I just can't place it, and is reminiscent of a lot of the Japanese Mustang-alikes from the very late 60s to early 70s (Mitsubishi Galant, Toyota Celica, etc.) I also feel like the rear end was originally either a fastback saloon or a hatchback that's been chopped down for the look again, and the rear end remodelled to accomodate what look like 1960s Ford Galaxie rear lights. The side markers are a bit of an odd thing on a right hand drive car since they're pretty much always a North America/Canada thing, so perhaps that ties in with whoever built it potentially being US Navy. Drums all round suggest a late 60s donor too, by the early 70s unless it was a budget hatchback I'd expect it to at least have discs up front. Definitely somebody's labour of love once upon a time. I had a go at trying to understand what we're looking at a bit better with some overlays, I'm pretty certain everything ahead of the headlights is either taken from another car or hand crafted. With the 'eye of faith' you can just make out a kink in the bodywork ahead of the front marker light that hints at where the old front and new front might join.

Yes, I agree that it could be a cut and shut effectively. We did find that the rear lights were late 60s Holden.

I was expecting a top gear reference after last night's episode

If at first you don't succeed........ ....Don't try skydiving!

It looks very muck like a Melkus Rs1000

Never heard of Melkus so learnt something here! It's certainly similar, but don't think it's the one. No gull-wing doors, different rear end design etc.

The drivers dash and steering wheel have a real 1970s Holden/Aussie look to them. The nosecone does look grafted on and as above, it looks just like something else but I can't put my finger on it.
A bit Marcos GT-esque.

My initial thought was a Bolwell Nagari (Australian), but they look bigger and don't have the similar rear side window. I am stumped.

First thought on seeing the initial pic was ‘Opel GT’ but looking closer that’s not right either

Dash is definitely corolla KE30/35. Front suspension maybe mk1 cortina. I still think its a (very complicated) self build.

I figured out what the side windows were reminding me of and then dismissed it as a candidate: Triumph GT6. The other thing I realised is that the proportions of the bodywork aren't a million miles off a Datsun 240, however, I'm pretty sure those never came with drums up front so it's probably not one of those either.

Can almost guarantee that the tail lights are XR Falcon. Dash, steering wheel, and column definitely Japanese, agree most likely Toyota.
