It is with great sadness, Nürburgring Queen Sabine Schmitz has lost her race against cancer. Sabine Schmitz had been mentioned in one breath with the Nürburgring for decades. She was the only woman to win a 24-day race in the Green Hell. Today the motorsport family reaches the sad news that Sabine Schmitz has died after a long battle with cancer.

RIP Sabine.
I'd love it if they name a bit of the Nurburgering after her.

A truly gifted driver. Such sad news.
Who remembers her yelling at a Viper to go faster whilst behind the wheel of a diesel transit.
RIP

Sabine Schmitz in the transit for Top Gear is one of the most amazing drives I’ve ever seen RIP I'll offer up an alternative as whilst the Transit van made great TV this is Sabine at her best 40 overtakes in 8 mins on the ring

Its a fair point bstardchild, but thats in a track car Its (to my mind) the proof of a really talented driver, who can get into a vehicle which is as far removed from that as possible, and is STILL showing the track vehicles a clean pair of rear wheels!

I was hugely saddened to hear this today. She always came across as the "real deal", not someone playing a role for the cameras.

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

Yup, sad news.
Now, Murray Walker commentating on a Sabine lap. That would be worth watching.

That's tragic. I appreciate the respect and sadness for Murray but that's tempered by the knowledge that he had a long life well lived. Sabine was what, 51?
Legend.

Most people who smile a lot look fake. She always just looked happy. Joyful. It is said a person never truly dies until the living stop saying their name. It will take a long time for Sabine to pass. She will be missed.

"Sabine mach es gut". What a crying shame another bigger than life racing character taken from us. No Bullplop Sabine was a great person always straight out and open to all sorts of fun. I will miss the synchronized drifting through Adenauer Forst and the natter with her in the local Barweiler pub, at her Mum´s Hotel or in the pitlane.
