I remember reading a while ago that if you only have Classic Car policies (and I guess after 2 years) you would loose all your NCB that was accrued on a modern car policy? I'm not sure if this is true these days but, I'm coming to a point where I havent had a "Normal" policy for 2 years and on Saturday need to renew my old Escorts Policy. If I was always going to have classics I wouldnt be bothered but at some point I'll probably need a modern again for traveling the country and don't want to loose my 9-10 years NCB = £**** a year for something boring. I'm getting great deals from Lancaster for around £120 each for my Capri and my Escort. Flux direct wants a lot more but then again a few things have changed this time such as business miles. I'm just thinking do I need to go with a company like Admiral to keep these NCB? Just looking to see if this is the case from peoples experience? Heres a photo to brighten up such a boring topic

Yes is the answer unfortunately. Since classic policies don't accrue NCD, they don't count when it comes to stopping your NCD from expiring.
It's all a bit of a con if you ask me, but it might be worth insuring something cheap on a regular policy. The fact that no claims expires after 2 years isn't very fair. Insurance companies ask all sorts of detailed questions relating to risk, but then apply a ridiculous blanket rule when it means it will make them more money. Since all insurers do the same it's not like you can even go to the competition (although some allow 3 years before NCD expiry).

I've had several cars on classic policies but I've always had the "daily" on a normal policy because of the risk of losing my NCB
In fact my current classic policy stipulates it cannot be your sole vehicle and also restricts usage to SD&P (Excluding "To and From Work")

Cheers guys! I thought this was the case. I may have miscalculated thinking about how long I've had the Car vs insurance. I was just boring my Girlfriend to death with all this then realised... ...My Capri used to be on Admiral in the first year 2019. Second year of ownership with Lancaster (2020) and I just renewed with them for this year (2021). My Escort has always been on Classic Insurance but maybe looking at my NCB with Admiral I have another year as that expired in 2020? I'll speak to the insurance about it too but I'm thinking its presenting the NCB in another year to a different company who will care/be itching to swindle me out of my hard earned.

It's worth speaking with your classic insurers about this. I asked Classic Line and they mentioned that while my policy won't accrue new NCB, they are happy to hold it with the policy so it I won't lose it.

I have one of my classic motorcycles on a "normal" bike policy and it actually works out cheaper with full NCB than the other very similar bike on a classic policy. I haven't tried car insurance this way though.

I think they are struggling to get a quote for a Musician / Supermarket Delivery Driver. Shame as theres no work as a Musician anyway.

Brentacre will let you pause NCD on a classic/modified policy, so you don't make new but you don't loose what you had
