Hi
I've got a pretty badly perished rear screen seal in my Fairlane. It's an unusual body style, I can get a new rubber for the rear screen, but not within my current budget.
I'm thinking about using a setting black caulk to fill/patch the cracks until I do have the budget, has anyone done this before? Does it work? What product should I be using?
Thanks MLT

I have used Glycerin brush it onto the rubber seal don't be afraid if it goes on the glass or paint it will just wipe off without damage. It will take three or four coats to start to work as the dried rubber will suck it all up but it will save the rubber seal until you can get a new one. I have used it on my rear door quarter light rubbers it took a while but it works really well. After the seal is supple again then just re coat say every 4 months ten minuets doing that is worth the saving the cost of a new seal. Hope this helps? Pete

If it's got deep splits etc I have found Shugru works well to fill them.

Sadly I'm a long way past that. If it's got deep splits etc I have found Shugru works well to fill them. I'd never heard of this, but it looks like it could be the ticket - I've got some very deep splits

If it’s for filling in deep cracks, I’ve had some success with Wurth 08932253 in the past (including building up missing bits). It’s a adhesive/sealant that dries into a rubber like substance and sticks well (not as flexible as new rubber seals, but workable for non sealing parts of a seal).

As long as you mask up the areas around it then Tiger seal/PU adhesive/ Sikaflex will work fine.
Mask up where you don't want it (this includes on the rubber itself) and work it in the crack and finish off with a filler knife for a smooth finish. Be sparing as it's easier to add a bit more the next day than to try to remove any.

I've kind fo talked myself into this stuff: Soudaflex-40FCI used some to stick down a weatherstrip and it apparently stays elastic.
