Good Morning,
I recently fitted a new exhaust, exhaust manifold and the associated gaskets to my Series 2a Land Rover.
It meant that that idle mixture needed fine tuning, which was to be expected.
However, once adjusted nicely the engine then ran perfectly for 30 mins. After 30s the engine began to hunt at idle, then causing it to die whenever the car came to standstill. Furthermore, it started to backfire on the overrun out of the exhaust. Then when screwing in the idle mixture screw again, it caused the backfiring to cease for 10-15 mins but the engine would continue to hunt.
I decided to strip the carb down and cleaned it thoroughly, repeating all of the screws. The car then ran the better than it ever did, again for 30 mins before the same thing occurred. This time I decided to just remove the mixture screw, cleaned it and reseated it.
It solved the issue again for around 30 mins.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what my issue could be? And do you know if a mixture screw should have a rubber seal on every carburettor?
Kind regards
