I wouldnt usually post about something like this, but I already am. I was driving through Horley this morning and saw a wide, possibly sportspack dark blue Mini comming towards me. Then he flashed me, I flashed back. Ive got no idea who it was, so mabie it was someone on here, i remember seeing a dark blue mini on here but cant remember who it was. I havnt been flashed at by a mini for nearly 20 years (ive never actualy made myself feel so old ) and it put a BIG smile on my face, which too be honest was EXACTLY what I needed after the last few weeks. I wont go into details, lets just say difficult. On a nice sunny day it was so nice to have a retro put a smile on my face like that, even though I was driving my modern Cube thing. So, driver of that Mini, a BIG public thankyou for a seemingly minor gesture Random cool but possibly not retro for pennance

I've just turned 50 and I still get the same buzz as I did when I was 8 when I see something old. I saw a Lotus Europa on a supermarket carpark today. It looked like it was from another planet circa 1975 or thereabouts. The roofline was about level with the bottom of the headlight of the 4x4 it was parked next to. It brought me great joy.

Always loved them. One of my PE teachers at school had one, would have been about 76 or 77. JPS colours it was, I remember thinking that he was the coolest bloke ever.

You're lucky, my PE teacher had a Morris Marina LE and no chin , in fact i don't remember any of my teachers driving anything remotely cool.

I remember thinking my physics teacher was cool for having a n MG BGT, but looking back I think "rubber bumpers? Nope"
Regarding being flashed or waved, the world needs more of this sort of thing! In a nice way, of course...

We had a very popular female biology teacher who had a Cortina Ghia in the metallic brown with brown vinyl roof that all mk4 Ghias seemed to be. She replaced that with a Fiesta Supersport.

A science teacher at my school would occasionally drive his Nova rally car in. I'd spend ages looking at it. Every September I'd hope he'd be my teacher for that year, but he never was.
I think he completed the RAC / Lombard rally a couple of times, back in the early 90s when it was a proper event.
I feel awkward flashing / waving at retros when I'm in a boring modern.

I the I'd only be flashing cars of a similar type of age, to avoid any issues

I saw the coolest person in the world on the way to work this morning. -1, proper pea souper fog and he was cruising down the A1 in a Jenson Interceptor. That is living the dream.

While we mention teachers, I also had a college lecturer who had a mini sprint, was a bit rough, had a vinyl bonnet as I remember. Would be worth coin now

A teacher at my school in Bexleyheath owned a tundra green mgbgt V8 Reg SCH 1L sad I remember the Reg but it was a rare car even in the early 80s We’ve discussed that car here before it still survives apparently Also I remember the head turning up in a brand new blue cortina crusader which must of been 1982/3 I guess it was a runout model before the Sierra replaced the cortina range
