I don't mind one bit, sets the tone of interest really I can easily find some big old wrecker lorry photos. Well quite, me too but I’d been holding off. This was our other wrecker at’ pit. I dragged a few in with that 😀 happy days What pit were you at mate?

Some great stuff here. The cut down Bedford RL fire engine I've seen a few times, I really like it. Think it's an ex Traveller rig. Obviously the Land Rover 1-ton is a favourite, I'm biased there though although mine was never a recovery (a lot were). Here's a particularly cool one: The 80" Series 1 Rich posted at the "garage" is just perfection though.

Worked at Moorgreen for a bit, never actually down the pit, but as a mechanic in the road transport garage. Then went to South Normanton transport depot, huge it was, over 600 vehicles, 40 fitters, 6 electricians, 5 body men, 5 joiners, etc etc. It’s a Designer Outlet Village shopping centre now On A38 near J28 M1

Particularly 84' the lead up to and the aftermath of the strike. The area I live is still devastated from it and its still a sore point.

At the opposite end of the scale, one of my thoughts with my Ant is to fit a Harvey Frost crane, a pair of stack exhausts, a light bar and some period sign writing.

If you aren't standing up you aren't trying hard enough! I grew up near Derby, Albert Looms the local splopper had a fleet of V8 Land Rovers for snatching cars in, they all had 100MS number plates. This is the best picture google can muster... And seeing as it got all heavy I snapped these years back on a Nokia (can you tell?). I believe it has since burned down but has been rescued and is being restored. Good owd Looms’ spent a few hours rooting around in there Sadly ol Pat Looms passed away recently. This photo was taken at the crem with one of the landies although the harvey frost seems to be removed

This one was posted on a Swedish Volvo Duett forum. Came far out the North but it looks more show than useful for real use I think. Thom

I'm fairly sure that is a timber crane rather than a wrecker from the length of the jib. Still cool as you like though!
Big old SU on that Volvo lump.

That's a cool way to get to the crem. Let's face it we all need to get there somehow. I recall there used to be one Landy parked up in the sheds on the left as you walked in the main gate, long after they stopped using them. Perhaps that is that one, kept for old times' sake.

They still use one for odd jobs as I often see it around

My Uncle Ken had a Scammell Trunker II with a recovery crane on the back, similar to this. I would love one, but too many toys already!

Retro Matt that is beautiful
I'd love to do a Honda acty or Bedford rascal as a mini wrecker with a Harvey frost style lift on the back

Great thread, the one ton landrovers are particularly cool in my book. But this thread would not be complete without a Scammel recovery truck:

One of our previous recoveries, the one on the back - Scammell Explorer. The front Scammell Crusader EKA is owned by a friend of my brothers. The Explorer did run with working power steering but the brakes were questionable! Our current recovery (or more correctly spares donor). Scammell Pioneer SV2/S from 1944.
