So, this is not technically a Retro Ride, as it is a little too new - 2001, and even worse, on a 51 plate, rather than a Y plate! However, hopefully it is sufficiently unusual that a few of you might be interested. A couple of weeks ago I put a deposit down on this: Just shy of 61,000 miles, with a full top and bottom engine rebuild in 2017 / 5,000 miles ago, and a respray a few years ago in the lovely 'Cascade Indigo' (note: this is not the original factory colour, which is apparently eye-wateringly expensive, but a close aftermarket match). It is mint, other than a tiny mark on the rear o/s wing and a small mark where the driver window nicked the a-pillar. The wheels are being refurbed in a bronze, which I hope will tie in with the bronzey undertones in the paint. Should be getting delivered next week, very excited!

Now this is fantastic and in the suitably mental paint as well.
Did you get a set of spiders with it or does it only come with the Jade Rs?
More more more please

More excellence. Yes, the Spiders are like butter. They just look so good though.
That chassis looks great. Kudos to you for such a great purchase. Please continue this thread when it arrives.
How much are you planning to use it?

Thanks!
My slight concern is I don't have a garage (and can't build one, stupid conservation area rules), but can keep it out of the worst of the weather under my carport (which has a high fence one side, my house the other side, and a shed at the back, so is reasonably well protected. I can then park my other car in front of it to make it difficult to nick. It was actually rather amusing trying to navigate my somewhat broken Peugeot 205 out of the way on the drive (including a three point turn on the road with my girlfriend on the driver seat and two of us pushing ...).
I am in all honestly slightly nervous about it, being my first properly quick performance car, and obviously one with a bit of a reputation - but sure I will get over that quickly enough. It will be a high days and holidays car, during lockdown probably only three or four times a month, but hopefully once lockdown eases we can plan a few longer trips - including from London to my folks in Aberdeen, and hopefully around France and perhaps to the Alps.

Mega
With regards to the retro-Ness, I think it's one of those cars that look retro (like even quite new jags etc) and as was said in another thread, people will either look and comment or they won't.
Again, mega!

Collection day today. It was awesome Got a lift across to Str8Six, couple of hours going over car. Poked around underneath, very clean. Quick test drive, transferred the cash and off I went. On the way home there was a crash on the M25 so we were detoured through Central London. Big mistake - two hours of crawling through traffic. Going through Kensington I felt like an Arab Prince. It got LOADS of attention everywhere. Stopped for fuel and got an old couple talking to me. Folk taking photos at lights. People rolling down their windows to say cool car. Passers by giving me thumbs up on the street. Let out at every junction. Nothing negative at all - everyone loved it. I've never had so much fun in a traffic jam. On driving it, I didn't really stretch its legs, but it is REMARKABLE how easy it is to drive slowly. Entirely compliant, light clutch, impossible to stall. Sure its loud and it rattles and it squeaks a bit (mainly the roof, will investigate) but not so loud you couldn't hold a conversation. The couple of times I put my foot down (in third only) it certainly felt quick. Only issue is that the electric mirror controls don't seem to work and the drivers door mechanism is temperamental. Every now and again neither the indoor or outdoor button will open the car. Will need to speak to Str8Six. Also quite pleased with the alloy colours. Less gold than I expected and I think better for it. The sound though ... imgur.com/gallery/8pDu5Kh

I loved these when they were current.
Still do.
One of my favourite designs of cars because it seems they didn’t compromise on shapes or curves at all and feels very much like a concept design that made it to the road.
I seem to remember they sound very nice too?
My favourite colour was the flip that went from silver to aqua so that’s the only slight dip in yours, still perfectly period paint though!
Enjoy.

Great looking car. Love the paint, kind of like tempered steel colours. Please keep posting, I need pics to see how they go together. Have just bought two as major projects.

4.0l straight six in these? I love the ART(Based in Blackpool same as TVR were then)cans as exhaust 'mufflers'. Had ART cans on Suzuki Sv1000S made a lovely noise!

Thanks all. Yes it sounds epic. 4l straight six, most powerful naturally aspirated six ever fitted to a production car. It is already testing me though, refused to start yesterday (apparently there's a knack to starting them cold and I flooded the engine...now I know), drivers door works less than half the time, electric wing mirror controls don't work, quite a few interior squeaks and rattles ill need to try and stop, and I've managed to chip the windscreen and nose already from one journey pottering around near my house 😪 all is forgiven when I put my foot down and here that noise plus, just look at it...

So, I had the car out each of the last three days. Still grin like a Cheshire cat on every journey. It is truly brilliant on quick smooth roads. I did take it on a bumpy b road today and honestly could probably have traversed it more quickly in a 1.0l Micra. That is not its natural habitat. The attention it gets is ridiculous. Came back today to a dude with his DSLR having a fully blown photo shoot. Had a good chat with the guy, who was a bit of a Lotus aficionado. There was a guy in a Z4 yesterday who rolled his window down for a listen but clearly didn't want to give me the satisfaction of looking. Don't worry mate I can catch your side eyes :biglaugh: definitely not a car for the reserved types! Children are the funniest they have no qualms about pointing and staring. Watched one kid exclaim "rainbow car rainbow car!" To his mother very excitedly. Great fun. Took my better half out a few times. First time I drove it quite gingerly and she rated it an 8/10. Next time I gave it full throttle in second and she screamed a lot and told me she was never getting in it again ... it is bloody quick! And it feels quicker than its going because it squeaks and rattles a lot and is LOUD inside. Going to try to fix the squeaking roof and rattling gauge cluster perspex. One annoying thing that happened was I managed to chip the corner of the rear perspex screen. It mustn't have been seated properly and got caught by the hinge. Very annoying. Gave it a good wash today. Clearly has some sort of coating on it as dirt doesn't stick to it. Few pictures...

Beauty, have you figured out how to remove the bonnet yet? It is a challenge to open! The front service hatch is easy enough when you know how. I have a bonnet conversion on the main bonnet. There are two clips - the one on the driver side is easy enough to get to, but the one on the passenger side is much tighter and my fingers are a bit too fat to get too easily. I checked the oil for the first time today as well. With the dry sump it's a bit of a pain. Must check when hot -get out car with engine running, open service hatch, unscrew dipstick, clean it off, turn engine off and quickly dip it before it all drains back into the sump. The colour is just insane. Looks different each time you look at it.

I think this is the first one I've seen with a front number plate. My tutor at uni had one, they're badass cars. The straight line acceleration was immense.
