Sub 2k "first" Retros, what does that get you?

I'd be going for something like this, black lights would have to go though.

I usually conduct these challenges filtered by locality. AS such, see below one local example and whilst it falls foul of the no auctions rule, at £1500 with 2 hours to go this is as surprising a retro as I'm likely to see pop up here:

At the other end of the spectrum of desirability, I'd be surprised to see this creep up to the 2k mark. Some light recommissioning and this could be a distinctive retro...

I have noticed the supply of interesting stuff has dried a lot recently. Even our own hallowed pages has seen prices creep and new adverts slump. I'd like to think its the current climate that's causing it rather than some dire recession based classic car price boom. Those are never good for the scene...

Got that black B-pillar thing going on as per your simple mods thread, which works really well on this.

I may like pickups a bit too much.


Had in mind a few years ago to cut one of its predecessors to a truck.

Strong, straight lines really contribute to look as well.

Not currently advertised but my brother was trying to sell his 9000 for £1200 which would leave money for some lows and some 4x108 wheels as its an early model

Nissan Sunny, saloons tend to be a bit cooler than the hatch but could still look good with some lows and wheels



Or you could eventually take the mods a bit further..




Big Volvo estates always look good with the treatment too



Non turbo and auto so not going to be all drifty, turbobrick fun, but could still be a very practical cruiser

The butt of many jokes, but simple mechanics, small and easy to park/store, cheap to buy (many cheaper ones than the above but needing work), rear wheels are 4x4" which is near 4x100 for cool wheel selection (and you only need to buy a pair)

The bike engine swapped one that was at the Gathering a couple of years ago showed that they can be lowered too



I'd get it low, find a pair of cool old school 13" JDM splits and maybe chuck a pair of cheap retro styled bucket seats in and just enjoy as is

I've searched and failed on various attempts so all this thread is going to get me is a load of spam emails from ebay asking me if I'm still interested in <insert random marque and model> or telling me it could be mine today

I'm in the Netherlands, so sub 2k€ gets you a ridiculously wide range of retro chod and I feel like that isn't playing fair on this thread. We don't get sub 3k Boxsters, though, so swings and roundabouts.

Which I think would be guaranteed to raise eyebrows at the next RRG. The dealer is happy to sort out export plates and insure it on them, so your 2k gets you a cheap flight, a ferry back, an actual yellow Twingo, and I don't doubt a scan of Marktplaats while you're here for a few days would see you some appropriate 4x100 wheels for much cheapness. Like these 200€ Rial Cups:

My 190E cost me £700 three years ago there still around for less than 2k
But if anyone asked my opinion I’d say buy a W202 there gonna spiral in price within a couple of years ....you heard it here first
