I've been watching this thread with interest thinking my skillz are going to be totally inadequate. I'm still in the planning stage of my build, not sure what I'm doing yet, but I was looking at sack barrow wheels and tyres.

I'm still in the planning stage of my build, not sure what I'm doing yet, but I was looking at sack barrow wheels and tyres. 😃 Well my abilities are nothing to write home about so I'm sure you'd be fine! The wheels I went for really have transformed it so I would definitely recommend them, the only issue I had to overcome is that they have built in bearings which is good for the front but meant I had to make some drive pins to make the rear wheels drive but they work well now. I did make little sketches/measurements as I've gone along of all the bits I made so if you want any I can send over some photos, only any good for this specific model of triang I guess but may help!

Great job on this so far! Before You start the paint job would You consider changing the back, so it would be longer? Currently it looks a bit out of proportion TBH. Some classic fender parts from a real car or even a wheel barrow could help here? And the car should have a fake grille. If You´d consider bumpers, You could use vw beetle overriders at the front instead of those tubes and a shortened beetle bumper at the back (or fiat 500 parts)? Just my 2p. Yeah I can see where you're coming from with the back but whilst modifying it I've been trying to keep the kids toy/"pedalcar-y-ness"? of it so I have kept the body more or less as built. I did want to make a grill but everything I played about with ended up a bit naff/didn't look right.

I can't weld and I have no metal fabbing skills. I might not be fine. Lmao. I think I'll be pulling in some favours at work. I'm not sure if any of your notes would be any good as I won't be doing an J40, as they're stupid money. Thanks for the offer, I'll bear it in mind just in case. TBH I'm not sure what I want to do as cost and distance to collect are a big factor for me. I live near Durham and most stuff I'm interested in is either expensive and within one hundred miles or cheaper but in London or further south. Suppose I'll just have to bide my time.

Believe me I'm in no position to buy a j40 either, let alone chop one up! 🤣 I got this one luckily quite local off Facebook marketplace for 80 quid. Unfortunately most of the ones for sale seem to be antiques dealers looking for silly money but they do occasionally come up for reasonable money. If I see any come up for sale cheap up your way I'll send you a link!

calecosse How is your sled coming along? I have taken the plunge and made a purchase. I'm not letting on yet, but it's going to push my skills to the limit. I'll start a thread once I have more than one picture to show. 😁

All the bits and bobs are done ready to put it together when it's painted. The only other bit I've made is a dash which I'm planning to get engraved to finish. Oh and I need to make a seat but forgot to take a final measurement so need the body back to make it.

Just one thing, I think you got your steering Ackerman angle backwards. You should be able to draw a straight line through your steering arms, through the kingpin to the centre of the rear axle.

Thanks for the heads up. I did actually copy the steering geometry from the original but just made in stainless and shortened slightly but all relative to each other, but I see what you mean and it is wrong. Do you thing the track bar should be longer at the front so that it toes out slightly? I have just done some research and looking at pictures it seems a lot of pedal car steering geometry is the same with the track bar forward of the front axle but shorter than the axle.

Thanks! 😀. Its actually a citroen colour weirdly that I seen on a new Picasso just at the point of thinking about paint. It's a colour with so much character on such a mundane car 🤣
