Welcome to the sale of my very rare, mk1 Mondeo 2.0 Si saloon. (pics to follow)
She was registered on 4/1/1994 on an L registration and I am only the 4th owner. The first owner kept the car for 16 years, then second owner for 5 years and similar for the owner before me. The car is fully HPi clear (copy in the history file) and has all the original handbooks present along with some service history.
Mk1 Mondeo’s are few and far between now, however an Si saloon with the full RS bodykit is really tricky to find, and especially in Diamond White. This example is also completely original and unmodified making it a fantastic retro example.
I bought the car as a bit of a lockdown project needing some tlc. It barely ran due to a suspected failed head gasket, exhaust was blowing and the paintwork was dull.
I sent the car to my trusted mechanic and unfortunately the original engine was past saving, with damaged pistons and scratched bores. A replacement 2.0 silvertop Zetec was sourced (not easy!) and prior to fitting, the engine had:
• New timing belt, water pump and tensioners
• New head gasket and bolts (plus a light skim to ensure perfect seal)
• New oil filter along with fresh oil and coolant
• New full LUK clutch kit
• New rear crank seal (old one had been leaking)
The car now starts and runs beautifully, with the peace of mind that all the major parts have been replaced. There is an invoice to confirm all work completed at a cost of nearly £900. Previous owner replaced the steering rack and wishbones also.
The exhaust was blowing at one of the rear boxes, so this part was replaced with rest of the system looking perfectly serviceable.
Following this work, the car was taken for its MOT which it passed with an advisory on the horn (now fixed) and the front brakes. I was able to get underneath the car on the ramp and can confirm the underside is in fantastic condition and the car has never been welded. For a 26 year old Ford, that’s pretty impressive!
I then turned to the bodywork which desperately needed a good wash and polish. The paint is now very presentable and the bodywork overall on the car is brilliant. Its as straight as a die down the sides and all panel gaps are perfect. There is a very small area of rust at the bottom of o/s rear arch but does not take away from the overall appearance.
The car has a few rare features on the exterior:
• Full genuine RS bodykit which has all the official stamps. It even has the very rare front wheel arch spats which again are genuine Ford/RS.
• Genuine Ford headlight covers – try and find another set!
• Rear window wiper – not many saloons had this feature.
The car has the original 16” 5 spoke alloy wheels with all centre caps and excellent tyres. Being critical, these could do with being refurbished to match the rest of the car condition.
The interior of the car is also completely as it left the factory, including radio cassette etc. Seats are unripped and free from major marks and all electrics work as they should.
Couple of small jobs still to be done:
Speedo is not working (replacement cable included but I haven’t had time to fit)
Rear door handles are stiff (believe it’s a common thing and easy enough to fix)
Occasional rattle from exhaust (something loose in centre box).
Overall a nice and rare retro, which is ready to go. Unlikely to see another in this colour/spec!
Priced at £2,795 ovno – I am based in central Scotland and close to train stations etc.
