Sorry, a bit random but it's been bouncing around in my head. Was the British Ford Consul Capri inspired by a larger American equivalent? In my mind I see something but the nearest is can find that would make sense is the 1960 Galaxie. Maybe the very early Chevy Corvair. Thanks Just realised where I'd seen one recently, Retromatt is selling one - no connection to me, just like the styling. . forum.retro-rides.org/thread/216946/1963-ford-consul-capri-herts

Possibly the Galaxie but I reckon the Consul Classic was inspired by the cousin of it which was the Mercury Monterey

Hi, Some of the Ford Fairlanes have styling clues as well.

I think they were just inspired by American car design of the time rather than a particular car

To me there's a little bit of second generation Thunderbird in the styling of the front end. Just going to add here that I believe the four door Consul Classic to be the coolest looking English Ford ever made.

For me it's the Consul Capri or the Mk3 Zephyr/Zodiac which were out at about the same time.

Agree Mk3 Zodi is right up there on the list of desirable English Fords. I may be biased though cos grandfather had one when I was little.
