This thing is still haunting me,as it's still for sale and I keep going back to it. Doing a bit of Googling there's very little on the VR6 mated to the 5sp auto in the Sharan. There's a few bits on Golf forums saying to avoid the auto's, but not sure if they're refering to the 4sp box? Has anyone had any real life experience of this engine/box combo?

Thanks Nick,
That would appear to be the box it has and MPG isn't really an issue for me with this one as It'll do less than 4k a year.
It may all be over with, regards to the Sharan I've been looking at as it appears to have sold, but not yet gone to its new owner.

I think you'll be surprised at the mpg, my Bora gets 28mpg pottering round, I can also get 6 out of it battering it round a bit though.

Not lousy cars, I quite enjoyed the one I hired. It was pretty refined, made a nice noise and went well too considering it’s size, but it was an absolute master at making fuel disappear. It’s true that I may not have been driving it with the lightest foot......
Scrapyard owners have a source of cheap fuel btw....
