Shame we didn't get the 2.4L engine like the US but got the 2L instead :-(

They're not the quickest of machines, although a B16 head on the Mk1 B20 engine gives it some pep apparently. Makes the VTEC kick in (yo)

These are all excellent  ... I'm sure suitable motor modifications can be performed to make them work better as off roaders too. We're Retro Rides afterall |

These are all excellent ... I'm sure suitable motor modifications can be performed to make them work better as off roaders too. We're Retro Rides afterall I'm thinking a suitably matt blacked/murdered one for business promotional purposes 💀 |

They will go a fair bit quicker but aren't very quiet above that speed. Mk2s aren't really any quicker but are a fair bit quieter. |

I love a lifted 4x4, these are shocking off road though so need all the help they can get. Last heavy snow I had to tow a CRV and an X5 up Moel Famau to the carpark. Yeah they're not really a 4x4, more an estate car with some ground clearance and part-time 4wd in case the road is a bit muddy. |

Surely more to do with tyres than the car. I've curse word ed off Land Rover drivers by passing them in the snow in my integrale, and Alfa 159 as they slip and slide with 2 tonne on the wrong tyres - bar-grips not exactly the best for snow and ice - hence the one that tailgated me sliding off and up the pavement as it tired to follow me as I turned right and buggered off,  |

As said, not really designed to transfer much power to the back wheels.
The rear driff. & driveshafts are tiny so they can help get you off ice once the viscous clutch realizes the front wheels are already spinning. Better for fuel economy & frictional losses but not good for 'performance'. At least Honda gave them an incongruously nice twin-cam engine.

I'll put the CRV down to driver error, I got my mk2 CRV up my dads old drive in the snow. It was a very steep drive! (I know it doesnt look steep in the picture, but trust me it was!)  They aren't the quickest of things, but if you get on it you can certainly hustle them along |

So what are these like to live with, diesel or petrol, mpg? Common faults?

The mk1 was petrol only I think, my mk2 was a 2.0i Auto, wasnt the best on fuel around town. Think I got about 22mpg around Sheffield on short runs, but thats about standard. My S60 D5 did the same (my mustang does 13mpg on the same journey lol)
Averaged 30mpg over 900 miles round trip to Cornwall, including driving about down there for a week.
The Auto box in the mk2 does not like 70, 65 or 75 is fine. At 70, the slightest incline or smallest throtle input has it kicking down randomly which is tiresome on a 6hr drive lol

I'll put the CRV down to driver error... I'd agree with that...  160 odd mile round trip to Bristol and back to pick up a guitar in at times 4 inches of snow with no problem at all. So what are these like to live with, diesel or petrol, mpg? Common faults? sinfully dull to drive. Apart from that a pretty good little run about. |
