I haven't finished my rock crawler project yet, but in true Retro Rides fashion a new project has arrived. Although it's my first nitro car I'm not new to them, as I've been crew chief/ mechanic for my step son who's had one for a couple of years. So what have I got? It's a Kyosho PureTen as far as I know. I'm not sure of its age, suffice to say the transmitter and receiver have crystals in them. I'll probably upgrade to an electronic system once I've sorted the bother I'm having with my crawler and know what I'm doing. The motor is supposedly new and has only had 4 tankfuls through it so it should be close to being run in, I'll take it steady for a few runs. I've checked the electrics and the work as they should. Can't check it running because I'm waiting on some nitro and a starter. Anyhoo, pics. What am I going to build it as? You'll have to wait and see. π

The puretens are good wee cars, just be careful with the pull start and donβt pull it right out to the stop as they are quite easily jammed.

That brings back some memories. Just seeing that chassis setup has the memory of the smell of nitro coming back :-) . Had more than a few Kyosho cars over the years. Bit gutted I let some of them go seeing what some of them sell for these days.
I used to have a massive love hate relationship with nitro powered models. Superb when you have them tuned in the sweet spot but getting the sweet spot on a cheaper used engine wasn't always easy. Must admit once I had advanced to a quality engine brand things really improved.
What body have you got planned for it?

I've had it started, and it runs. Need to get it tuned now. Haven't been able to do that because there's been 3 inches of snow and I'm waiting for it to melt. I've just had a message off my wife telling me the body shell has arrived. Need paint now and decals. I need some custom decals making, can anyone recommend somewhere I might be able to get this done?

We all love pictures. This is my choice of blank canvas, well plastic. New wheels and tyres are ordered. No more trimming until they have arrived. π

Is that a body that's made its way up country from Kamtec in Bognor?
I was thinking it might be a Barry Lee car, but the only pictures of his cars with wings I can find are either box arched or droop snooted.

Yes, it is indeed a Kammtec body. I've been wanting to use one for ages, I must say I'm very impressed with it. I think I'm probably going to get another one for another project to put on the Kyosho chassis, so I can mix it up a bit. It's not a Barry Lee car, but you're not too far off the mark. It's going to be a Martin Schanche car. I'm having to take a bit of artistic license as it's a conglomeration of three cars from different years. I wanted an X pack body, but I couldn't find one in 1/ 10th, so I'm having to use the forest arch version. Once my wheels arrive I'll get it stanced up and get the final arch sanding done. Here's what I'm aiming for. I'm going for the look of the last picture, but I want the colour scheme off one of the X pack cars, not sure which one as yet. π

While it's off the road waiting for a replacement pull cord I've done a bit more. Front magnets are fitted. It's currently sitting at its highest ride height, it will be coming down a bit which will necessitate a smidge of arch trimming to stop it catching when the wheels turn. Next I need to work out the magnet mounting points for the rear, as the posts come out where the rear window was. These are still not the wheels I'll be running it with, these are for another Escort project, in the future. π

This is roundabout where it's going to be sitting. Not exactly how I wanted but compromises have had to be made. Need to make a couple of tabs for the rear body magnets and then it'll be ready for paint. Sorted the snapped pull start. Next is a set of Revolution 4 spokes and a set of new adjustable dampers. Roll on payday. π

No, I haven't been on since I ordered the MK2 shell, thanks for the heads up. Just had a look and I'm having one of them as soon as I can though. Need to have a look for a suitable subject to replicate. π
