Hi all,
I put a thread up about getting a crawler not too long ago and I would still love one in the future but I have basically been given this HPI truck to have a play with.
I will be doing a light clean up on it first, then try and get the thing running. I know nothing about HPI trucks. I think this is a HPI savage SS but I have no idea? Where are the identification marks on it? I did used to have a Kysho Impreza years ago but that's the only Nitro I have ever had.
I want to get a cheap body shell to start so any advice greatly appreciated. I have seen a cheap clear plastic one on ebay but I don't know if the fitments differ.
Cheers

I would just check out pics on Google of HPI Savage trucks to see if you can match it up, sorry I can be of more help. Proline do good 1/8" scale truck bodies and they aren't too expensive. You might get some on ebay, or Modelsport might have some. Most truck bodies would fit, just try to make a judgement on where the posts are and where they would roughly be on the body.

Cheers for the reply. I can find similar ones but as you can imagine its hard to tell sometimes and the info on the older trucks isn't as readily available from what I can see. Am I right in thinking from what you are saying in that you buy a generic 1/8" shell and drill your own holes?

Yes, any generic 1/8th scale truck body should be ok. Just pay attention to the heights of the bed / bonnet and try to make a judgement on if your posts are in roughly the correct place and height. You can get away with a bit here and there as you can adjust to suit. Also, once you trim the body, drop it on the truck to mark the holes before you paint it. You won’t see where they are if you paint it first.

Needs a new air filter lol, best rc trucks in my opinion, best upgrade and in my view a must for the savage range are 1/5th scale wheels, I run one of my XL savage with baja 5b rear wheels

Yeah the filter fell apart in my hands. I have stripped most of it at the moment. Also managed to get a used shell. Hoping in a couple of weeks it will be done.

Bigger/wider wheels will save you rolling over when steering much better for bashing about in my experience, wheelie bar if you haven’t got one already, I have 3 savages and they all do wheelies from standing still, with out wheelie bars I keep flipping them over, you can give them a really good bashing and they keep going

Also fuel tank guard if you haven’t got one already, it’s easy to damage the tank due to its location on a savage

This is excellent timing! I’ve bought an old crappy one recently too and have been putting it off as I have no idea where to start with an old nitro. I’ve had a traxxas slash for a few years but thought this would be fun to tinker with.

I have one of these somewhere too, had it about 18 years. I used to abuse the he'll out of mine! Its handled absolutely stupid jumps, full speed, 30 foot in the air type jumps 😂
Is it 2 speed? Not sure if they were all 2 speed or not.
Keep meaning to get it running again but I have too many electric cars to play with.
