As above. Its loose and will freely rotate. But it wont come apart. 🤔🤔 I triple and more checked that everything is disconnected/unbolted. Do I just need more force or what??💥 Ps it kinda dwarves the 1.8 zetec behind it 😄😄

Have you unbolted the torque convertor from the flex plate?

Have you unbolted the torque convertor from the flex plate? This. They don’t come apart like ‘normal’ stuff. Just hope the motor turns over as they’re a real sh1t to get apart otherwise!

Depends on model it’ll have 3, 4 or 6 bolts/nuts. If you roll it over and have the cover off you can usually get to more than half, and it’ll also help you determine the position of the last couple. You can usually just about get an open ended spanner down to em but you’ll be working blind and it’s a pain.

Other option is stand it up on the crank pulley and rotate the box until the torque converter unlocks. You have to be lifting it as well as you do so. It’ll empty the entire contents of the box out all over you/your feet/the motor though.

Can you not do this but rotate the box to get to the bolts, then drop it back down to remove the torque converter with the box?

The bolt heads are between the back of the block and the flex plate, so it won’t improve access all that much. The gap that’s there now is as big as it will get. Really theres no easy way to do it if the motor is locked up.

Easiest way I've found is to take the heads off then free up the pistons with a big hammer so it turns. It's probably full of water so you'll need new ones anyway.

Take the sump off as well, undo the big ends and knock all 8 pistons out then it should turn freely.

Have you tried pulling the plugs to get it to turn? I doubt he would have saved it if it wasn't likely to go again.

5l is 305ci which is why it's in imperial. 16mm will fit a standard 5/8" plug though.

It’ll be a totally screwed up mix of metric and imperial at that age, including metric fasteners with imperial size flats, and vice-versa. Always great fun...
Spark plugs are always metric though, both threads and flats- it’s why they’re sized at odd sizes that have a direct metric/imperial crossover.

Actually smaller in terms of unremovable extremities than a rover v8 that makes half the power form 3/4 the capacity... I’d class them as pretty compact tbh.
