A friend, she is a writer, actor, producer, director, has posed the question ‘can you build me a mobile theatre’... Well I do have some ideas, suppose it depends on how big a flippin theatre she wants. Small, based on a 3 1/2 ton box van. Medium 7 1/2 ton Large 18 ton Suggestions on the back of a fag packet please. 😁

Think fairground or market traders , I reckon the smallest you'll need for a stage will be a 7.5 t

Pickup truck with an extendable screen out the back. Projector on the back of the cab acting as a rear projector. This would be drive in cinema style, night time only obviously

There is a TV show on MAVTV called Full Custom garage - I can't find an episode or even a proper reference but they put a stage on the side of a bus - IIRC it kind of folded off the side.

Theater as in punch & judy or cinema? If it's the former, it could have a drop down stage hanging off the side of the van

The Cinemas are my first thought but old tech and shocking MPG! Now I am not trying to circumnavigate the law, but I would recommend she becomes a member of the Showman's guild and looks at Showman's haulage, for two reasons, it will get her known in the Show world and provide routes in to events, insurance etc It can also dramatically reduce the vehicle operating coats The Funfair is the place to look, I would also look at the Showman's Haulage taxation class as it might qualify? I feel it does, it has one purpose, its specifically built/ modified for this. This forum should help, remember its a mobile theatre built specifically to entertain people at shows, fairs etc, its not used for anything else? No O licence, No MOT / Plating, No Taco. But it must be correctly insured and taxed VED for Showmen is £165 www.fun-fairs.co.ukwww.keepmeontheroad.co.uk/blog/the-showmans-exemption-know-where-you-stand/www.showmensguild.com/transport.htmSection 79 assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/644428/specialised-heavy-vehicles-exemptions-from-annual-testing-government-response-to-consultation.pdfVED is £165 too, No MOT/ Plating required but you will get hit heavily if caught with an unroadworthy vehicle, but its saves the MOT cost. No Operators licence required Page 4 assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/193518/Goods_Vehicle_Operator_Licensing_Guide.pdfIf you can successfully do it you can also two two trailers at the same time now I don't fancy reversing that lot! Some bed time reading case law, basically two people who where prosecuted but won as they proved Showman's vehicles. www.casemine.com/judgement/uk/5a8ff74260d03e7f57eaa85fwww.jmw.co.uk/services-for-you/motoring-law/blog/when-showmans-goods-vehicle-not-showmans-goods-vehicle
