Hi all,
The Paseo has a personalized plate (MAZ ....) which I'd like to take off on and hold on retention for...I dunno...a Mazda I may have my eye on.
I've no idea what the traditional reg. would be...
How does it work? I've no doubt someone has done this...

I posted it in my thread last week... There’s two dvla web pages open 7am - 7pm only, one page is to remove plate from vehicle and one is to add plate to the next vehicle. Remove reg - www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers/take-private-number-offAssign reg - www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers/keep-or-assign It costs £80 to remove, payable with a card online when you complete form to remove from vehicle and then free to apply it to your next vehicle. I completed the removal form on Friday 7am and received the new V5 on the original reg in Wednesday morning post. 3-5 working days is quoted online so I was impressed with the time along with Christmas delays. You get the removal reference instantly so if you already have your next vehicle you can apply the reg to the next vehicle straight away but even the paper copy of that arrived Thursday so less than a week any way. When you fill in the online form you need to be in a position to tell your insurance and swap the plates over straight away - it tells you the reg that’s been applied to the vehicle with an official document to print off so you can get plates made up but in my case it was the return to the standard reg so I already had those plates that i removed two years ago.

Incredibly thorough and comprehensive - thank you! Was worried that I'd have to take my car off the road for 6 weeks whilst waiting for the original reg paperwork...

No worries, the only delay is receiving the V5 which would only hinder you if you wanted to sell the vehicle on. Just thought I’d mention that in case the U.K. goes in complete lockdown again and it does end up being 6 weeks!
