Hi all
After a bit of advice if possible.
I refitted the standard suspension to the Ignis at the weekend and after a test drive in an empty car - I.e nothing in it to make a noise - I’m getting a clunking noise.
It sounds like it’s rear near side so I’m thinking it’s the strut.
Google suggests you can tighten the nuts too tight. So how tight is too tight for the bottom bolt? And in terms of the top nut how do I know when to stop tightening the nut down the threaded shaft over the bush?
Thanks in advance

Definitely possible to overtighten a bolt and stretch / thin it, thus reducing it's load carrying capacity, what you should be doing is using a torque wrench to the manufactuers specified torque, I have taken bolts out that have been obviously stretched so it can be done.
The damper top bolts are usually pretty meaty I'd be suprised if you damaged one of these, are any washers etc still there?
The easiest way to find a knock is to get someone to bounce the car and feel around the various joints for the source of the knock

None of that might make sense but just thoughts I’m putting out there in case. At the moment it is bush then washer then nut .

It's not something daft like the lower shock mount having a offset Bush and you've fitted it back to front?

I’ve found before photos from when I originally lowered it, I’ll check tomorrow but the top threads look about the same as in this photo... ... I can’t tell from this photo if the bush is offset or not? ...

It doesn't look like it is offset but the best way to be sure would be to take it out and measure it.
looking at the picture the thread on the bottom bolt looks pretty rusty, I wonder if it has caused enough friction that it has taken all the torque to overcome the rust and you haven't actually clamped the bush properly, might be worth taking the bolt out cleaning it up with a wire brush and putting it back together.
the only other thing is at the top there looks to be witness marks where the top mount rubber has been touching the body a good 5-6 mm outside the diameter of the bush, It doesn't seem right it can move that much should the top mount to be in up the other way or something?

Thanks for those tips - the witness marks are actually marks from the rubber cap that sits over the top of the bush / washer / nut thread etc.

Had a look in daylight, I don’t suppose the upside down spring helps?! I’ll flip it upside down this evening and have another drive to test.
