If I just wanted a cheap rock crawler to try and have a bit of fun with what would you guys recommend?
I have seen a lot of them recently and I fancied giving one a go. I see guys buy cheap ones and upgrade as they go. Are there any guides, any good shops to go to online? How much will I have to spend to get started?
Cheers

forum.retro-rides.org/thread/211401/wpl-jjrc-henglong-truck-threadI have 3 of the WPL trucks , 2 C24 and a C34 and they are brilliant for fun around the garden or a trail through the woods . Also have a MN90 but not as impressed with it . The recent updated C24-1 seems to have glowing reviews but can’t warrant buying another just yet .

If you want cheap thrills with lots of cheap upgrade options and tinker time, another vote for WPL. While technically I only own 1 (B36 - Ural 4320) I have a raft of clone models all using WPL parts, a custom built ZIL 157 based on a JJRC Q60, a tow truck based on a WPL B14, and a I have a few JJRC/WPL mashups to built, as well as a WPL/MN combo on its way courtesy of Mr Bognor on here.

Thanks for the tip on these... been eyeing up rock crawlers for the kids to prize them away from consoles and laptops. Just ordered 2 of the hilux type off that site, and... whoops... one of the little kei trucks fell in there too, guess that one will have to be for me then...

I suppose it depends on what you actually want to do with it. If it's cheap and chearful and you don't mind a wait when parts need replacing, the WPL stuff is great.
Bit more expensive but with good parts availability is the FTX Kanyon. It's a big brute, but needs a modification to the chassis to stop it cracking itself, but people call them "TRX4 Killers" (although they aren't)
