Nice work, I like the refurb and refit part by part method, really good for breaking down bigger projects Liking the simple/cheaper solutions to some of the worn out or overly complex OE parts as well!

Carbs are back in with new spacers and gaskets. Plenty of fuel going in but no spark so an ideal time to fit the 123 tune+ Bluetooth distributor. Rolled no 1 cylinder (next to bulkhead on jags) to tdc using a wooden dowel in the spark plug hole for reference. Then got under the car to check the crank pulley which confirmed it's bang on TDC (handily you can't see the timing marks from above 🙄 ). Pulled the cap to see the rotor arm pointing to 1 as well. Dissy out and it was full of rusty water. Another excellent peice of jag engineering design putting the dissy right under 2 main coolant gasket joints and 6 hose joints. Good job a leccy dissy was always on the cards.

Over the last few weeks I've done a few bits on the Jag but not been high on mojo. I backflushed the cooling system using the connections on the back and lower side of the block. Got a lot of brown muck out. As the etype is in the garage in the garden, and up on stands I bought a cheapo 30m hose to get the water into the car. Flushing highlighted the need to get the rad recored. Pulled the rad out and it's off to J&J in cov to be recored. Whilst the rad was off, I was able to pull the grill out and removed the auxillary fan and old ac rad.

I also fitted the 123 tune+ Bluetooth distributor. Very simple to install and the map upload simple to do. 3 wires to plumb in. Engine has to be set at TDC on no1 cylinder on the compression stroke then the dizzy body to rotated till a little green led comes on. I had to order a replacement dizzy clamp as the original was bent. Fitted the new clamp but couldn't get the dizzy to clamp tight. Dizzy was moving causing a carb backfire. Very puzzling until I realised the clamp wasn't sitting on the neck when bolted down. The dizzy was fully seated in the dog so a spacer was needed. Then it ran better for the few seconds I could run it as the engine has no coolant. Fresh NGK plugs with denso leads

Also got a nice raised white digit plate. Behind the plate is a fabricated bracket i made utilising existing holes in the bodyshell (didn't want to drill more). I also cheated with the light clusters. Didn't want to rush fitting different lights so have pulled the existing light clusters inboard (to "tighten" the lines) and screwed on an amber led marker light for the indicators. Indictors and hazards seem to work ok. The usa spec all red lens aren't in great condition anyway. The ungainly reversing light clusters are hanging down. They are MGB units fitted via a steel bracket hanging off the bumper brackets (functional but a crappy installation IMO). i will be fitting a pair of small projector bolt style lights, discretely, to simplify the rear end.

Just had a thought, would the back lights off one of these Alfa GTs work, tucked up under the bumper? No reflectors again, annoyingly. Seems like the curve might conform quite well though. s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/images/gallery/ALFA-ROMEO-GT-16_16.jpgActually mounted upside down might be just the job. They are a bit modern looking, but they'd be so tucked up under the bumper that I don't think it would be at all apparent.

What were Jag thinking fitting that size of light? It's so disproportionate to the size of the car it looks awful.

Just spent an enjoyable half hour catching up on this now that I know the 996 has gone. Having seen how nice a job you made of the Covin I am sure this will turn out great too. I've never been into E type but the 2+2 is the pick of the bunch for me. I also like it being silver rather than red! Will you be keeping it on wire wheels? Anyway, thanks for the thread - bookmarked. I'm off sick and need to keep myself entertained.

Return of the low mojo and a twangy back has slowed work so this where we are......i've pull both rear lights inwards about an 1" which doesn't sound a lot but it makes a huge visual impact. Using some existing holes in the back panel, i made a mounting bracket for the new numberplate which is tucked as high as possible. As you can see i've screwed on a some led markers lights which are hooked into the indicator wiring (all reversible should a future owner wish to use amber/red uk lenses). The usa spec all red lenses are poor condition anyway..... Hanging down are the mgb spec reversing lights. A rear mash up engineering job by the factory. I dug out a suitable bracket which was sliced and angled, bolted up using the original mounting point behind the bumper. The brackets now allow a pair of high power led eagle eye projector lights. Tucked up and hidden. Just need to connect the wiring. This is the before shot of the rear lights

Will you be keeping it on wire wheels? I'd love to have knock off minilites but budget won't stretch. These wires are in good condition.

Amazing how much better those lights look now you've moved them in a bit. Minilites or Dunlop steels would be great but sometimes we just have to work with what we've got I guess?

lovely car, there's plenty of 5x120 steels out there as it's a common PCD for bmws etc, but it's probably worth more on the wires

Rear end finished. Think I'll need to fab some trim plates to smooth the transition between the body and the light units.l (to tidy the view from the side). Eagle eye reverse light quite bright.
