Next you will be giving it a whole respray! Get some part worns or mid-budgets and get it MOTd, and then sold.
Or keep it forever, definitely worth doing that with the condition you will get it in!

Sorry not ready yet - My mate Will has found his emergency spare coil pack so that’s good news and he’s sorting out his laptop so he can interogate the ECU and demand that it tells him which one to replace. In other news (predictably) my OCD has kicked in - there are 3 wheels in the boot of the hot wash coupe - going to have the tyres stripped off and going for a shot blast and powdercoat refurb Don’t panic - the other wheel will follow shortly I just can’t fit all four in the car...... I’m going to pretend it hasn’t got a spare in the boot for now........

The P6000’s are dated 2004 and the Sime (malaysia manufactured) from 2003
The hunt for decent tyres that aren’t shandong linglong wanli or sailun
I don’t have an issue with budget tyres (we all have price points and have to make decisions or chose priorities) it’s just that 2000 kgs of car with 286 bhp is attached to the road by 4 points of contact all less surface area than the palm of my hand and I feel much more comfortable knowing it’s at least half decent rubber.

I keep checking in on this thread also
In the nicest possible way I think you are a bit mad to be doing so much work to sell an MOT'd, facelift, 740i for ropey 728i money 😂 I hope whoever is lucky enough to buy it fully appreciates the work you've put in!
Thankfully I don't have the funds or the space and have already scratched the E38 itch so I won't be joining the queue 😂

Hi Adam I keep checking in on this thread also Nice to have you along for the journey In the nicest possible way I think you are a bit mad to be doing so much work to sell an MOT'd, facelift, 740i for ropey 728i money 😂 I hope whoever is lucky enough to buy it fully appreciates the work you've put in! It's keeping me amused in Lockdown MKIII (in between working for a living, trying to get the garage straight and really really trying to avoid starting a house improvement project) Who ever buys it will need to spend some money on the paintwork if they want to make it really nice - I hope they do because it really is the only thing that lets it down visually on close inspection - 10 feet and you'd hardly notice Thankfully I don't have the funds or the space and have already scratched the E38 itch so I won't be joining the queue 😂 I've scratched it too and the space would be nice

Four bare alloys delivered to the powder coat place - now I did run the car on them for several years and they never gave any sort of vibration but I have been caught before in getting four rims refurbished and then finding that one had considerable run out when the new tyres were fitted to the refurbished wheels. So I now get the garage to check all four wheels on the wheel balance machine (without tyres or valves on them) just to ensure that they all ran true and didn't need a shed load of weights to balance up without a tyre on - I was amazed at the weights on the back of one of them (normally a sign that something is wrong) but it seems to have been to correct the tyre rather than the wheel as they were all good and running true I'm still pretending that there isn't a spare wheel in the boot........... I'm also not going to look at the date stamp on the tyre on the spare (I know it's the original spare BTW)...... I'm treating it as a test of my will power/OCD

Who ever buys it will need to spend some money on the paintwork if they want to make it really nice - I hope they do because it really is the only thing that lets it down visually on close inspection - 10 feet and you'd hardly notice I’m looking forward to your post next week saying you’ve dropped it off at the body shop for a prep and full respray.

You are a one-in-a-million gentleman, that has a clear conscience. Going to great lengths to get the car sorted and correct for the new owner. Hats off to your sir. There would be a list as long as your arm for people to snap up this 740i - you could charge £2k for it with the work done, and it would still be cheap! Have enjoyed this thread and seeing the excellent progress made on this fine car. Agreed. It seems there is a lot of interest and money spent on the car that you really should reconsider the price when it is ready to sell. I would say you should be looking at £2k minimum but probably nearer £3k. Lots of interest in these on the BMW E38 Facebook group

I would say you should be looking at £2k minimum but probably nearer £3k. Lots of interest in these on the BMW E38 Facebook group I appreciate your suggestions/comments on pricing but I'm very very unlikely to do that I understand why you would say that but I minded of the transporter. 1. Never change the deal, 2. No names, (Well only on the V5 at ownership change ) 3. Never look in the package (when it has an MOT I'll welcome a full inspection ) Tyres and wheel refurbishment take me over my budget which is sub optimal - some of the fixes I've done on the car have been needed for a while and I had always planned to do it - some have been "surprises" life is like that However as an example of the "reasonable people of RR" one of the interested parties has already offered to cover the costs of the tyre replacement above the "Advertised" price as it would be the first thing they would have done had I supplied it on "get you home tyres" it's made the decision relatively easy for me. (I hope they don't mind me mentioning that) There is a huge added bonus for me in that I don't have to fret about someone buying a car from me and a 16 year old tyre coming apart on a journey home destroying the experience of new car day) If when I have the car finished (MOT'd and my plate removed and lets face I am not there yet) he decides it's not for him then I'll need to reflect on where I am and what I need to do price wise but most importantly I'd really like the car to go to a home where it will be appreciated (a little paint rectification wouldn't go amiss either but I must admit I've lived with it as it is for a long while)

(I hope they don't mind me mentioning that) I had exactly the same thoughts, to DM you with a similar deal and make an offer to pay for anything else that was deemed necessary, but didn't feel right doing so. Fair play to those that did. More power to the "reasonable people of RR"; Its one of the many reasons I like this forum so much.

I like this forum too I write off 20% of the purchase price at the end of every year on most of my cars - I always have done I include the "loss" it in my running costs or my car "habit" would probably be even more out of control than it already is Year --- New Value 2006 --- £- 2007 --- £5,200 2008 --- £4,160 2009 --- £3,328 2010 --- £2,662 2011 --- £2,130 2012 --- £1,704 2013 --- £1,363 2014 --- £1,091 2015 --- £872 2016 --- £698 2017 --- £558 2018 --- £447 2019 --- £357 2020 --- £286 So at the start of this in late 2020 car owed me £286 I knew I'd need to fix some stuff and I reckoned I'd have to spend around £5-700 before I got an MOT hence £1,000 Pricing

Just a brilliant thread....and you have to laugh at the start bhg “I’ve spoken to other members” Yea of course you have ......just out to make a quick profit I think that's unfair. I am not like that and if you knew me would know I'm more like the seller of this bmw than he realises . I spend a fortune on the cars and if they ever do end up for sale I always show where I purcahse them from and usually lose money. The only time I sell them straight on is if they are nothing like described or beyond my capability to repair. I offered the asking price instantly without any work done to the car and he knows I would like to buy it to keep. There are 2 other members on here which I know very well from the vauxhall scene and both had sent messages about the car . If they would like to make themselves known that os up to them. They also received replys saying the car basically wasn't for sale. In fairness to the seller he edited the advert and cleared any confusion . No need to state negative untrue comments for no reason at all when the seller had already politely replied on his own for sale thread .

No need to try and state negative untrue comments for no reason at all besides trying to make yourself sound better. Mercdan68 Just to clarify the vast majority of the people who have made enquiries about the car have been lovely people to communicate with and I very much include bhg in that category - he's made it very clear that he's not looking to flip for a profit and would like to put the paintwork right before enjoying the car as an occasional driver and I have no reason to doubt that His comments earlier in the thread about maybe I was a tad hasty putting an advert up were valid and I did say to several enquiries that they really should read the first post properly as I though I had made it really clear We are where we are and 6 pages in it still hasn't got an MOT yet

I still keep returning to the thread just to see the work and progress . I know who ever ends up with the car from here will be happy with it and if that's not me then so be it . I will be equally happy for the buyer. Not jealous at all. Honestly. Glws
