With the recent purchase of an X358 Jaguar XJ, my venerable X300 Jaguar XJ6 3.2 is available for sale. I've developed a real soft spot for this old girl and it's been a fabulous car for me - supremely comfortable, reliable and competent. Bought from a serial XJ owner as a stop gap while I looked for the 'right' X358 after I sold my X308 XJR, I had never planned to run it as long as I have, but I couldn't find the right X358 and this XJ6 has been an immensely pleasurable diversion. I'm actually a bit sad that I have now found and bought an X358 as it means I must reluctantly part with this old friend.
Make no mistake, this is no concours contender, indeed it's appearance could be described as 'dishevelled', but it's still a wonderful drive and supremely comfortable. Cocooned in the cosy and sumptuous cabin, enveloped in leather and walnut and with a straight 6 soundtrack it's hard to imagine a finer way to waft through the English countryside and I have relished every journey in this XJ. Jaguar got the recipe for these absolutely right.
Mechanically there are no known issues - it's always started easily and runs beautifully both on petrol and LPG. All the warning lights come on and go out as they should, there are no klonks / rattles / nasty noises underway and the ride remains excellent having benefitted from new springs, new shocks and polybushing to front A arms and rear subframe in the hands of the last owner. The AJ16 3.2 litre straight 6 is nice and quiet, has masses of oomph and sounds good on the move. Switching to LPG can be done automatically or manually with a discreet switch at the base of the gear selector surround and boosts real world equivalent economy to more than 30mpg in normal mixed driving, which makes this a viable daily drive candidate - I certainly drove it whenever I could and with total confidence. Gearbox, brakes, steering etc. all working as they should.
The interior is lovely and not battered and worn out as so many of them are. The woods are particularly attractive and in great order. Seats are very good - some wear to the drivers seat, as can be expected, but all still supremely comfortable. Carpets and trims are excellent. Headlining has been pinned to resolve sagging. All controls, functions, interior and dash lights etc. working. The climate control is great, though it doesn't get frosty cold in the summer.
The exterior is finished in British Racing Green and the coachwork has suffered from extensive lacquer peel on pretty much all the horizontal surfaces to some degree. It still looks great when it's wet, but when dry the peeling lacquer is obvious. Patina fans will love it! Structurally the Jaguar is remarkably good, it's never had any welding to my knowledge and has jut passed another MoT with the tester remarking that the usual structural rot spots are surprisingly good. It does have some rot in the passenger rear wheel arch, plus the bottoms of the front wings, with some corrosion advancing in the fronts of the sills, but it isn't horrible. A full rear wheel arch repair panel can be included by negotiation, if desired. Elsewhere there is a small dent in the drivers side rear door and the usual little biffs and klonks to the bumpers, with general age related marks and scuffs present here and there, but overall it's refreshingly straight and honest. Wheels are decent, with good tread on the front tyres, though the rears will want replacing soon.
Elsewhere, there is a current V5C, a file of history plus original owners books / folder, together with one key plus original working Jaguar factory alarm remote fob. The LPG tank sits in the spare wheel well, but a correct space saver spare with full toolkit sits in it's own bag in the boot - there is still masses of usable boot space.
If you fancy a well sorted XJ6 that you don't need to feel precious about, needs no work, has a full year's MoT, runs and drives as it should and that you can jump in and waft around in supreme comfort straight away, feel free to get in touch. I'm listing it here for a couple of days before I advertise it more widely and place an advert on eBay etc.
