Until such time as I get a garage built, I don't have anywhere under cover to do any work - be it car or DIY. I've been thinking of getting a decent gazebo to at least keep the rain off. Can anyone recommend a good brand? I'm thinking this sort of thing, but preferably without all the branding: www.24mx.co.uk/racetent#?prn=Tent2020_2011_MX_1__plcmnt_PRODUCTCAMPAIGN1 We used to have one of those cheapy £20 ones from Argos, but they're only really showerproof - heavy rain just gets turned into a fine mist, so not ideal for keeping things dry below. Thanks, Steve

I just got one of a similar size from Aldi to use at work. Not used it yet but it looks solid enough.

Had several, all either not much good at the waterproof bit, or collapsed when the wind got up, or both Ive resorted to using an old frame tent when needed, more waterproof, stronger and easy to peg down, bit dark without lights tho’

A neighbour uses one of the Machine Mart/Clarke garage/workshop tents. It's survived the storms of the last 3 years but the trick is to make sure it's absolutely lashed down. A bit more expensive than the pop-up gazebos though.

I had a Dancover temporary garage that lasted 7 years of fairly hairy weather before finally succumbing.

Theres a site not far from me, in the Lincolnshire fens, where people live all year round in their touring caravans and awnings (not the usual transit flatbed lot) Ive seen several with ratchetstraps strung over the lot and pegged down, might be a solution? It it’ll stand the flatlands it should stand most things

I had been thinking about making a frame in the garden and throwing an old lorry canvas curtain over it though I'm going with a multi layered tarp for now (because I can get one posted to me easier) and am going to string it up like a basha, tarp is so large though it should go ground to ground on the sides. If it ends up not being up to snuff I'll go for the lorry curtain

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I actually bought the one I linked to in the Black Friday sale in the end to have something to use.
However, it might be a case of "watch this space" though - the OH & I have been doing some sums and shopping around; with all the stars aligned, there's a chance we'll be able to actually break ground on building a garage next year!
More than mildly excited at the thought of that as you can imagine.
