I love a Tomcat, especially in Nightfire red. Beautiful cars.
There are a few in NZ, in varying states of decay. They didn't really have much of a following here, so most got run down and/or scrapped when something went wrong years ago when they were worth nothing. I'd love to own one, but hard to get a good one now.

Would love a turbo one in this colour. They really are a lovely car!

As usual, Derek, the painter, tends to run to his own timetable, and he overran to when I had expected to pick the Tomcat up, but, I have to say that as he has on the previous four cars I have given him to work on, he has done a great job. On the day I was supposed to collect, I turned up to see it thus... So, another couple of days later.... Very, very pleased with the finished result. The guy has been doing this for 50 years, and although he may be old school in some ways, the finishing result is always amazing. I'd just sat down to a nice glass of wine on the evening the Tomcat was back with me, when another hailstorm hit us. The hailstones were quite soft, but the thought of another night at sub-zero temperatures and some harder hail meant I decided to move the freshly painted/lacquered car down to the lockup to protect it. Of course, that meant a couple of nights out in the cold for the blue Stanza. I can imagine, if he could talk, he'd not have been a happy chappy... He could chat happily to his fellow Stanzas though... So, Tomcat.... I'm looking forward to getting it out of the lockup and giving it a nice warm soapy wash in the next few days to get the dust off. Should look great when done.

Is it strange to find a fancier grille now looks cheaper & more generic? Nice to see the design evolution & changing fashions.

That really does look stunning now, I'm sure when it's had your customary TLC it'll be even better, I bought my wife a 214si years ago, it was a brilliant little car, Nigel

This Tomcat looks great. It's a beautiful car, I think a proper classic car.
It's funny that there is almost always a mystery (nice) car on the drive way. This time I spotted a Mini convertible.....

Oh, that's glorious. What an absolute stunner. I always liked the look of these back in the day but had pretty much forgotten about them in the meantime. A mate's brother ran a Tomcat around a decade ago and it was a tidy one. However, he didn't do a pile to maintain it and I last saw it in a car park twelve months after he'd sold it looking very sorry for itself. I always thought it seemed a big waste at the time. Back to yours though, thanks for sharing. What's next for it? And what's this mention of a white Mazda coupe in a scrapyard? Not a Montrose surely?

I can't remember how or why the 626 GT Coupe got mentioned, but it's a car I had a couple of years ago. There's a thread for it somewhere in here...

Very nice!
I had a couple of Rovers in the early 2000s and I lusted after a Tomcat, either the earlier 220 turbo, or the later 218 VVC with the Rover 200 dash. My brother had a 216 in nightfire red and I had a BRG R8 214.
For me, though, the best colours were Amaranth (deep purple colour) and Charcoal grey...
From somewhere I acquired some official Rover promo posters and there was a nice Tomcat one, hopefully it's still in the loft somewhere!
