Has anyone sent car parts to the USA from the uk. I’m after advice in terms of who pays import duty and how and any other helpful advice you may have. The parts are second hand worth approx £700 I am organising the courier Thanks 😊

I have sent car bits all over the place. Never had to pay duty. I book through parcel2go, I know some people will be haters of the site, but I have not had too much bother with them. Only advice I could give is go completely overboard with the packaging and allow a lot longer for delivery than quoted.

I use parcel2go aswell, they’ll tell you what documents to attach to the outside of the parcel. Usually a few copies of the original invoice. Receiver pays tax based on these invoices.

Thanks for the advice. Nearly all ready to go but can’t seem to get the parts insured on parcel to go / parcel hero or anywhere like that. Want me to jump through hoops / send 100 pics/ rub my tummy and pat my head etc. Parts are a e36m3 induction plenum and itbs/injectors. The box is joiner made 4mm ply glued and screwed together and the parts are well packed and braced inside. Any way around this.

Can you blame them ? I.M.O. it's much to ask them to insure parts with no proof of the original condition, the man from Del Monte would say no if I was them

Your welcome. The point I was making is that your unlikely to get insurance through a courier without providing proof of condition/value, why would they, leaves them wide open to getting ripped off. I hope I'm wrong and you succeed in getting insurance for your shipment without jumping through hoops, if you do please post up how and with whom

Not overseas, but when hermes lost a cam that mk2 son had sold via a Facebook ford page, which we’d insured through them, a pic of the sold page was sufficient for us to get a payout Not sure if it’ll work outside UK?

I used interparcel to send a pair of front wings to US. Value about £500. They accepted my valuation without question. As it happened, the went from Glasgow to somewhere in New York State in 4 days !

Sent driveshafts etc to my son in the USA for his Imp, used DHL, did the paperwork online and insured them no problem.

I normally just put a Lehman’s description of what’s in the parcel “inlet manifold” or “injectors”. You then set the value and if it goes missing, use the original invoice as proof.
