Hi all
I'm hoping someone can offer some advice. I've been having some trouble with the battery light slightly glowing on my Mk2 scirocco. It's recently started doing it but only when the battery is at full charge with no ancillaries running, if I turn in headlamps, blowers etc (basically if the alternator has any significant load) it goes out. When I start the car in the morning it takes 5-10 minutes before it starts to flicker dimly and if I turn off and restart the engine it takes a few seconds to do it again (presumably the battery recovering to full charge after cranking).
I've checked the voltages and everything is fine, I'm getting 14.55v on the battery with no significant variation, earthing the meter to different points in the engine bay shows that all earthing points are good, I've cleaned them up and measured resistance to chassis/battery neg just to be sure.
The blue exiter wire to the alternator measures virtually no resistance and the connections are all in good condition. Someone suggested the voltage regulator so I bought a replacement and fitted but still the same problem persists.
I don't think there is an actual fault with the charging system as it's used daily and is still working fine, and all of the voltages are correct. I'm starting to run out of ideas so does anyone else know what I can check and test to try and sort this out?
