It's early but I'm learning to weld with my first welder and I work slow at best, so I need the time! I've got this picture in my 'some day' folder for a long time and now is the time I try to make something similar. So I've been gathering some parts, and picking up a mower as base for the oily bits soon. Had a quick go at getting the engine to run. Next time I'll try not to get my rear end in shot

Of course I am watching.
I have a complete unused, galvanised wheelbarrow tub stashed out back that you could have had.
Pity Corona has played havoc with everyone..
If you do find an opportunity to get it picked up, and can get it collected, let me know.

craigrk There you go...... This would have been a good use for the mower glenanderson now has to restore.

I like it. I built a few Radio Flyer customs and recently acquired a mobility scooter to make into something cool. I'll be following your build.

Though about going electric, for ease of building, but where's the fun in that. And where am i going to find the new electrons when the battery has ran out after too much fun on the gathering campsite! Fuel isn't easy within the area either, but a lot less hassle then power!

It now runs, but the clutch is slipping badly. Need to see if I can find a clutch or get it relined. And it doesn't select all the gears correctly, guess that's some play in the linkage.
So, clutch time and then take it apart!

Great looking project, will be watching with interest, have a ride on mower and several motors kicking about the workshop waiting to find a use for.....

Made a start on the tub tonight. Doesn't look like I can make this years gathering, but there's always RRG22! Chassis first thing on the agenda now. And I need to work out how to route the belt and make a clutch system with it, as the clutch is broken.

Generic centrifugal clutches are fairly cheap, might be an alternative? Otherwise all my ride-on mowers have an idler pulley which takes up the slack in the belt to provide drive

I'm thinking about the 2nd option indeed. Looks like it is the easiest way of doing it.

Friday evening came, so it was barn time again. Had a little play with the parts from the lawnmower and had a change of plans. Putting the engine in the back will make the whole belt route a lot easier. Does look less good though. Now get some steel and start on the chassis side.

Mock up a false engine for visual effects? Engine is going in the back of the one Iβm (supposed to) build, apart from not slicing bodyparts off in a belt or chain, as you say, routing is much easier Can alwsys build a βbootβ around it to hide it?

I already have the engine propped up on the slots (it's tiny! ) Belts not slicing off body parts is also a good thing. And now I only need 1 smaller belt instead of more and longer ones. Does need to go closer to the gearbox, but I couldn't get it close enough with the stuff in the way.

Another weekends came and gone, started on the chassis. Not sure if I'm totally happy with it, but I'm learning as I go! Also made the steering work, now I need to reinforce it all so it survives the campsite

Flexible chassis might stay as a way of shock absorbing, but the steering is floppy now. Don't think that'll survive

Is the Ackerman angle still ok with the axle mounted the other way around?

Probably not, as I changed it all. There's also less turns lock to lock, and I have less steering angle now, but it works. First test (my mate pushing me while I tried to steer it) showed that it went around corners pretty well without weird behavior, so I'm calling that OK for now.
//edit : I have sincere doubts that the stock system had correct ackerman, as it was all over the place.
