I am helping with shirts and fixing my garage. The flat roof was shot, and the electrics fried so now a pro has fixed the door and re-roofed I'm re-wiring, fitting cool LED roof lights and clearing out the junk. Paint too probably. Then I can get the car in (2000 Forester) and mastic the rear light (boot pond forms every few weeks), and other tidying (satin black wipers, big valet.) Then - some wheel refurb? I really want a boot spoiler but they're as rare as rocking-horse dung. Oh and I need to refurb the lights too as they're all grotty and yellowed. One day - some lows. Anyone got a set of servicable Impreza WRX blobeye shocks??? Having suffered from a few of these problems littlepixel also has, got round to looking at a couple today. My boot pond is (I hope) caused by the fact one of the boot spoilers fixing studs has broken away where the plastic attaches to the stud. I have removed the spoiler and put rubber grommets in the holes (why do they put 5 different shape holes in the boot lid!) and removed half a washing up bowl of water from the spare wheel well. Bit of surface rust so think I will have to get some hydrate 80 and go at it before anything serious sets in. I was passing a local motor factors this afternoon, and swung in there to see if they had a headlamp restore kit. Ive not been in there before as they have only been there around a year and the guy in there showed me around the warehouse to have a look at the stock. Many boxes of kyb shock absorbers which is great to know in future if I need any they are just down the road. Picked up a headlight kit and set about returning them when I got home. before pic after pic not perfect as I think some discolouration/cloudyness is on the inside but 10 times better

If I was being good I'd do the tappets on the LR and oil changes on the daily ones. Top of the list doing something proper is to get the spare rear leaf springs apart, clean them and put them back together as the springs on the back are in a bad way. To do this I need to borrow a friends Oxy kit. Must ring and organise collection tomorrow ! So essentially nothing of great note. Work / general mojo is low as can't do the bit of my job I enjoy without travelling. Of more interest is the boys plans to get a family friends old tractor over here and running. Might need some bigger spanners.... Does a 1969 tractor count as a retro ride ? James So all of the above still stands but I have outline permission to get myself a nice rtec 180 ! Why - mostly because I want one, and old cars = rust. Also looking forward nobody in the village has one so becomes a useful skill to offer.

Interesting to read back on this almost three weeks later. Progress was made, the box of bits is now this: Engine, wheels and some bodywork still to go, but getting there!

Car wise, I have things to do but I'm not working on them, my old briggs and stratton has become an exploded diagram, I've got a few parts to measure up and replace

There's things I want to do on both cars, but can't for one reason and another. With both cars currently out of action I did the only sensible thing and bought another car that I'm definitely not going to get attached to and spend money on and then sell at a loss, like I normally do. At 180,000 miles it's just about run in.

As we're on the way out of lockdown I've bought a new project. Hopefully start a thread next Friday when it's collected.

Through the whole debacle I did some house jobs, got a container for work stuff and tidied up a couple of sheds, knocked another down and replaced with a greenhouse, sorted the loft, put engineered wood flooring all through downstairs.... But today was the one I’ve wanted to do most of all, we tackled the front shed/workshop... it would be a garage except it’s only about 6’ wide and 8’ long.... but we achieved this We’ve got a workbench and a vice bolted down!! I know it’s still got too much stuff in, but I can mostly find things, and will continue to clear stuff out and tidy away from here, I’ve just ordered an r-tec welding trolley so we can put both welders by the bench, then tidy up storage a bit more

Cool. /\/\/\
It’s great when you can get a bit of organisation into your workspace.

This Xmas hasn't quite planned out as I expected. I was quietly hoping to get into a new garage/workshop which would be home. But that is doubtful. But with every cloud, there is a silver lining. I knew mortgages would be tougher to get, but I never realised the scrutiny would be so increased now, to question everything and I mean everything (car sale, repayment from friends/family who you may have helped out etc (read the Saab story for example in my M3 thread ; I would buy the parts for it but be repaid later). As a result, I'm a bit glum and now very militant in what and how I do things money wise. A shame, and it certainly has made things awkward for others, but if I need to come across as being squeaky clean, it's a necessary evil. So, the workspace isn't what I want, but I do still have the unit as my playground. What do I have planned? It's all going to be M3 based. In short -Rear brake lines ; replace them. It's a big job being a tank out removal being required. But there's only so long you can convince yourself that grease is fine. -Inspection II : RockAuto make actually bring the bill down on a number of the parts thankfully, with them still being OE parts. The valve clearances are a pain, but least I won't have to touch the valves for another 4 years, and the other parts of an Inspection II for another 8. -Bodywork ; The wings I'll probably leave. The rear arch I'm going to try and tackle myself. Scary on a car which I've paid the most for out of any car I've bought. Will I destroy the car or discover a hidden talent on mine? I want to pay someone, but with long term plans to think about, something has to give, and this unfortunately will have to be that area. Even the Mondeo may get some attention. It wants a bit of surface rust rectification in places underneath, but at least it's in areas that are not directly in the eye. It's also not worth alot, which makes tackling it less daunting . The final thing will be the Velosolex. It will want the lighting system fixing, as it currently doesn't work. I'll also need to threadlock the lot ; the fuel tank fell away from the bike a while ago so it will be good to go over it.

Need to finish off polishing the lips on these split rims and build them up ready for sale (post lockdown) Managed to do 2 out of 4 so far.. If I can get it back on 4 wheels by the end of the 4 weeks I'll be happy Not quite on its wheels, but the front suspension is on and the front wheels are loosely hung in place, so technically 4 wheels Also need to give the daily Yaris some love, am overdue servicing the gf's car and my motorbike needs a good clean up ready for an MOT, not going to hold my breath though! These didn't really happen although I've charged the bikes battery so I can start it up at least! Did buy an old pushbike to do up which isn't all too far off being sorted Also managed to find employment for the first time since June, so it's been a pretty productive period for me overall
