Volvo 940 SE Automatic Estate
Bullet Proof 2.0 Litre B200E Engine
4 Speed Automatic Transmission
Metallic Blue
Grey Heated Cloth Interior
MOT until 1st December 2020 For sale is a classic Volvo 940 SE Estate. It is a one lady owner car, from new.
These are legendary cars which are now gaining cult status. Cavernous loading capacity. No-nonsense, simple mechanicals. Built like an old battle tank.
High specification SE model with:
Electric Sunroof Heated Front Seats Electric Windows x 4 Electric Door Mirrors Power Steering Central Locking Front Head Lamp Wipers
Mechanically, this is one of the most reliable classic Volvo models you can buy. It starts first turn of the key. Idles in the correct manner once up to temperature. No coolant leaks. No overheating, even when sitting in heavy traffic. There is a slight weep on the power steering fluid reservoir, which needs topping up every few weeks.
266k miles, which is just running in for one of these 'B200E' engines. These are simple and robust units, with not much to go wrong. Not overloaded with technology or sensors. From an era where you could tinker and do home repairs. They drive the same at this mileage, as they would at 100k miles or 400k miles, as long as they have been looked after. And this has been looked after very well.
There are invoices from the garage who mainly looked after it, and there are thousands in bills and receipts. Anything it ever needed, was done. No expense spared. And you can tell this from the way she still drives.
It pulls well in every gear, with no hesitation. Whilst this won't be giving a modern PoleStar a run for its money, the old girl keeps up with modern traffic and happily sits at motorway speeds. There is something reassuring and comforting when driving these old 940 estates. They get you where you need to go, and you just drive in a relaxed manner.
The gearbox is solid and the gear changes are very smooth. You would find it hard to believe that this car is almost 30 years old.
The suspension wafts along nicely, soaking up any bumps in the road.
Brakes and good stop the big lump as they should.
Tyres are all matching Michelins. The fronts are fairly recent and have excellent tread. The rear tyres also have decent tread, but are perishing slightly on the tyre walls.
New Battery.
Overall, it is in decent condition. There is no rust or rot on the bodywork. Marks, blemishes and stone chips as to be expected of the age. The bonnet edge gas a few marks (see photos). A few scuffs here and there on the doors, and some on the bumpers. But generally tidy and presentable and it has none of the usual lacquer peel.
The interior is a true testament to Volvo build quality back then. It is tight and solid, and as you would expect from this era of Volvo, it has worn the miles very well. All present and in one piece. The seats are free from rips or tears. These are like sitting in your favourite sofa at home. The floor and boot carpets have been covered with Volvo rubber mats. Surprisingly, the door cars are intact and not peeling away (would benefit from a scrub down).
Everything works as it should. There are no warning lights on the dashboard cluster.
Comes with: Two Keys, Volvo Folder, Volvo Handbook, Various Bills & Receipts, V5 Logbook

Nice car. Other than the one lady, how many male owners has it had?

There's a PS reservoir on eBay for £15 right now...
I still want an Ovlov but the wife threatened to do unspeakable evil to me if I added to instead of thinned out the fleet...

Nice car. Other than the one lady, how many male owners has it had? Lol, Logbook states one previous owner, who was the Volvo chap that purchased it to do a V8 conversion and turn into a drift toy. He had too many projects and also felt that it was too good to butcher.
He was right, it is a nice old tank. Not quick in the slightest, but will cruise all day long at motorway speeds
Original owner had the car since new until this chap bought it a few months back.

I am always in that predicament. But, along with older Jags, these have gotten under my skin, and I find it hard to resist the urge!
Always enjoy wafting around in these. I've got other cars which are 5 time more powerful, but these are so soothing to drive, and you are never in a hurry to get anywhere (well, you can't be really!).

Original owner had the car since new until this chap bought it a few months back. So you're the third owner, not really a one owner car then...

Re. the leaking p/s reservoir - take the seal out of the lid, clean it, turn it upside down and refit. Reservoir leaks are a common issue on earlier Volvos and are often cured by this li'l trick.

Original owner had the car since new until this chap bought it a few months back. So you're the third owner, not really a one owner car then... Well, no, the car is not registered in my name yet, and has one previous owner on the logbook (who never used it and had it in storage).
Therefore, the statement is pretty much correct - it is a one owner car, who had the car the the majority of its life.

Had a chance to look through all the paperwork.
There is almost £8k in Invoices and Bills from the garage which looked after it since 2009!
Cam Belt last done in 2015 at 243k miles, so good for a while yet.
Well-looked after, serviced annually.
Recently it's had: brake pads, brake calipers, welding, manifold gaskets & repair, washer bottle repair, exhaust mounting & clamps, tyres, etc.

Cambelt should be done every 4 years so technically it is due... however I have a 360 that has a genuine Volvo cambelt that was changed in 1999 3k miles ago so it should be fine for a while yet.
