Back to the 70s! Always wanted a 70s porsche - 911 out of reach and 914 not far behind. Had a few 924s over the years and during lockdown bought this. Had been used as a mobile billboard for a sandwich shop and signwritten over the rear wings. Then sat on drive in London for a couple of years, but was known to the 924 OC about 5 years ago. 1979 4 speed with early features. Work completed: Inner and outer sill work on NS Floorpan and bulkhead rust repair on NS New Fuel lines, hoses, pump and injector seals Engine service Used rear shocks Patch on OS floor New alternator New rear axle nuts, wheel cylinders, one rear hose and pipework Fuel pump relay Cambelt and tensioner Replaced OS window motor Locks repaired Replacement bonnet pull cable and catch A quick and cheap rub down and rattle spray made the car look OK from a distance: but paint really poor all over. 2 years under a cover had made a mess of most panels. So a recent house move and a nice large garage means I finally took some time to respray. I chose the 1974 914 colour Ravenna Green. Needs cutting back to a polish and have some original alloys to fit, but pleased with the result for rattle cans and better prep.

Very cool.
Funny how that same color on a 914 doesn't look unusual, but on this car it looks really bold and unexpected.

Looks great. Early 924s are by far the best (obviously as I have one) What colour is your interior (brown for the win) Here's my '77 I might be interested in your wheels if your getting rid, what size are they?

My interior is black with herringbone seating. The dash is uncracked however which is a bonus. Brown interior yes would add to the 70s feel.As S reg is pretty early and yours looks in good shape too (even the bumper looks well fitted!) Yes I will be selling or storing those wheels. I was told they were specifically made minilites for a limited 924 series a while ago. I've not checked the offset etc - but they fit OK. The fronts were I was told designed to have a small spacer to clear the brake caliper but the PO just shaved a little of the caliper to make them fit. Tyres are poor (legal but poor).

The rear 3/4 pic really is a good angle.
Colour works for me.
Nice.

I always liked 924 and had an '82 in GP white with the gorgeous psychedelic interior. (XAR 391X) I wish I'd the cash to grab another. My ideal would be an early 4 speed dropped on Fuchs. A boy can dream... There are a couple of stunning 924's on here.

I preferred it on the mini-lite esque wheels - the OE ones look a bit lost in the arches/colour! Just my opinion - think you did a great job on painting it frankly.

Thanks for the comments - I think I prefer the original wheels - and keeping them also means not needing to buy new tyres! Anyway I'll leave them for now and see how I go. Really pleased on the paint too - its by no way perfect and close up has errors but so much better than before.

OE wheels do look nice, although I liked the Minilites too. A drop in ride height would be great but appreciate it's subjective. Either way, the cars looking great and still better than any modern stuff to my eyes. I'd love to resto-mod a 924 and give it the performance the styling deserves.

The car looks familiar in the silver with the sticker on the front wing - probably from the time I spent in the 924oc. Your changes have dramatically improved it - I love the colour and the no-spoiler cars always look classier than the spoilered ones (he says, having owned a turbo with a sponge for a spoiler!). The interior is nice, but that shift knob looks a bit bling (and a bit stubby?). Maybe that's just down to it being a 4 speed.

The gear knob is bling yes and I am looking for an original 4 speed rubber replacement. It was last seen in the OC about 5 years ago in Scotland then disappeared for a while and I saw it for sale in London. I liked the silver look, but the paint was just bad everywhere really and beyond saving.

What sort of power can these engines be tuned to make with porting, cam etc? Or is it a case of really needing a turbo or an engine swap?
Looks good by the way.

I think around 150ish is possible with NA work. They do seem to need a Turbo to go further. Even that can run into limitations due to the K-Jet fuelling system. It's fine, but at least on an RST, the KE-Jetronic runs out of puff ; Mine did at 230BHP ; the fuelling was 'just' beginning to creep near 13:1 AFR, even with the 5th injector. This leaves you with a few options: -Richen it up; It will however overfuel everywhere -Add a 5th Injector ; MF-II used to do one that cut in at higher boost. This can stretch the system -Add a bigger metering head/injectors. A Southern specialist suggested this. But given that K/KE has a narrow tuning window, I can't see how this can work. I'm also aware a few customers of hist became a pension fund for him with his 'tuning ability' in the 944 World -Go with a Standalone setup. That overcomes alot of the problems, especially with newer injectors about. It's not exactly cheap as you know however. That said, there are other choices: -944/968 swap. Lalli from Pistonheads (aka NurburgSingh) has I believe had this done. Now if a Turbo 944 engine could go in, but I can imagine these are now pricey as well. -Another engine ; I think a chap here was trying to fit in an Audi Straight 5. LS swaps are the most common of swaps purely down to the bang for the buck, and V8 noise . I believe there is a kit out there to do this.

That's a great choice of colour. I think the wheels look fine actually. It's not a combo anyone would have put together.
A drop would be nice however. The camber plates have some adjustment, but you may need to lower the beam to re-index the torsion bars. The other choice is you put a hole in the sill, which allows the torsion bars to slide out in situ.

Bookmarked. If memory serves, you had an early series X19 that you made look fantastically period but also individual and this has the same vibe about it. You can't buy taste and you've got it. Really looking forward to further updates.
